Semaine du 5 au 9 décembre. Au début de la semaine, nous continuons à découvrir Un Techo. Courte semaine car jeudi est férié et servira de jour de repos… Enfin peut-être est-il l’heure de parler d’Un Techo maintenant que nous sommes dans la place… en attendant de pouvoir parler de nos expériences quand nous irons sur le terrain. Depuis longtemps au Chili, des étudiants vont travailler en tant que volontaires sur des chantiers l’été. Mais c’était quasiment toujours des groupes venant de la même université. NO MORE HAM AND CHEESE! Please PLEASE! They serve jamon y queso on the airplane, in every cafe, at the bus stop, every freakin country in south america, i'm going to die. When i get back to new york, im making each one of my friends go to an asian restaurant with me one at a time, because if i dont get some non-jamon-y-queso soon, i´m going to starve myself. We took this AMAZING bus over the andes mountains to get to chile (9 hours maybe?). It was $15 which wont even get you to New Haven Connecticut. You spend 4 hours leisurely climbing the mountains...everywhere is a postcard picture..with the snow and the grass and views and the clear lakes...and then after customs you go down the mountain in 10 curvy roads in like 10 ... read more

After our tour of peru, we flew to santiago in chilie for a few days. apart from the language, it could almost be an american city. very clean and westernized. chill time!... read more

Mon. 28th. We're finally dragging ourselves away from this oases, but maybe it's time. The hotel's xmas tree has gone up, and with a dog and a 1-year-old running around, it's starting to feel too familiar! The 6 / 7- hour bus journey to La Serena is at last getting rid of the barren sand and rocky mountains, and we are beginning to see greenery - trees even. Tues. The hotel pointed us in the direction of the beach, but the 20 min. stroll turned into a 1- hour hike! It was well worth it - the sand is so clean and goes on for miles. Best bit of all, we've got it all to ourselves. Their tourist season starts soon and finishes in March, so goodnes knows how they make enough money to keep going. ... read more

Que pasa dIARY! i´ve arrived in Santiago! yeeeaaarrhh, The travel excitement FINALLY hit me when i was looking out the window of the plane, waiting to see the first sight of this huge continent that i will call home for the next year.(see photo, i was reeeeaaaalllly excited right then ;·) Hit the airport and managed to spit some spanish at the hoards of taxi/shuttle/bus drivers all vying for my Pesos the moment i step out of customs, like bee´s to the honey. After a 20 hour journey it was a nice little welcoming. Turns out the guy i picked, was actually pretending he knew where i was staying. no pasa nada, we found it pretty easily, it´s on the main square of the city, Plaza de Armas.
