At the airport it was straight into a taxi to get us to the bus station in Santiago to board a bus to Pichilemu. When we arrived in Pichilemu we were greeted by a young local who asked us if we needed a place to stay. We pulled our boardbags along the dirt streets, taking care to stay out of the way of the many horse and carts rushing by. We arrived at a guest house called Rapa Nui and checked into a room. It looked like a cool place, more like an english bed and breakfast full of Chilean family's on holiday than a hostal. After spending a week in a shared dormitory with 12 people, it was a welcome change. Me and Pete dumped our gear and then guess what??......... That's right, we practically ... read more

Thursday 25th January to Saturday 27th January, 2007. Mario woke me as requested at 8.45am, three hours after hitting the sack, and I then spent an age waiting for the tourbus which was forty five minutes late, time I would have just loved to have spent horizontal in my bed. I met my guide, Tonia and driver Sergio then climbed aboard barely looking down the bus at my new friends with whom I´d be spending the next five days and nights. For some bizarre reason the only seat vacant was the one at the very front, the one with unlimited leg room and it was all mine. I was happy. After an hour we stopped at the small village of Pomaire, known for it´s hand crafted pottery, an ancient village of ´Indians´ with Inca origins. I ... read more

Hey all my friends back home. How are you all doing? I am doing awesome. So the last time we talked I think I left off at about a week before mini outreach. So I can’t remember anything that happened that was significant before mini outreach but we did have a few bbqs and a great speaker in the school. So on sat we all left for mini outreach which was the 28th I believe. So that was about a month ago. So sorry for these updates and how they are so spread out but am a busy busy man. So our group split up into 2 groups. On went to a town called san Fernando and then my group went to la pintana. La pintana in a suburb, if you can call it that, of ... read more

Today was a slow start. We needed some rest after yesterday and were a bit slow off the mark. That was, of course, exacerbated by our inability to blog quickly. Breakfast in Casa Silva is served in a small room overlooking the courtyard. We shared breakfast with a family of six from France. Bryan didn’t like the Chilean egg dish but the steaming hot coffee and cheese and meats, with personal service, established a solid base to start the day. Driving to Colchagua Valley It was a beautiful fall day in the Colchagua Valley. Being late, Bryan was racing to get our noon appointment at Montes. Rounding a corner at ~135kmh, the Chilean police flagged us down (radar gun in hand). Yikes! The police officer spoke no English; we spoke no Spanish. Bryan’s California driver’s license ... read more

22nd December 2005 We caught the morning bus from Bariloche to Osorno. We had planned to go to Valdivia but to get there it would have meant Andy and I going on seperate buses on different days as they were so full, running upto Christmas. Therefore as Osorno was described in the guidebook as a transport ´hub´ and in the right direction we headed off there. We arrived in Osorno at 1pm and found that the next bus to our desired destination was a night bus leaving at 11pm. So we booked our bus tickets and headed off to see the sights of Osorno. Which we soon found out wasn´t alot unless we wanted to get a taxi and head out of town. Osorno seems to herald from the concrete era and the most notable piece ... read more

We both wanted to wish you all a Happy Christmas and send our best wishes to everyone! Thankyou for the messages we have received, it is nice to hear from poeple at home, or whom we have travelled with. We are currently in Santa Cruz in the Colchagua Valley in Chile - where most of the Chillean wines come from! Courtesy of Sam as our wedding gift we are in a five star hotel over the Christmas period which is great. The luxury is great, comfy beds, aircon, a swimming pool and a bath! Our first Christmas as Mr & Mrs Kelly will definately be one that we remember. It has been nice to sun ourselves by the pool and drink excellent Chilian wine, but I have had a few pangs of missing friends and family ... read more
