Ah, capítulo a parte, chegamos no ... read more

The bus from El Calafate was relatively easy until we reached the Argentinian border where for some reason it took the border officer an hour and a half to stamp 30 exit stamps - ridiculous bureaucracy! In contrast the Chilean border despite us having to fill in the immigration forms and have all our bags searched only took 45 minutes go figure. On arriving in Puerto Natales we headed to our hostel called Erratic Rock which was run by an American guy. From the moment we walked in the door the service and friendliness was one of the best I have had anywhere. The owner was really open and chatty and you could tell he was the kind of person that you could talk with for hours without realising the time had passed. Our purpose for ... read more

After Puerto Montt, at the extreme southern tip of the Chilean Lake District, Chile breaks up into a mass of islands, channels and fjords. The only way to see this beautiful, yet predominantly deserted area, is by boat. From Puerto Montt there is a weekly ferry to Puerto Natales, in Chile´s far south, which travels through this remote area. Although expensive (US$300 for the cheapest accommodation in low-season, although with a 10% discount through getsouth.com), the Navimag ferry was definitely worth it. I arrived in Puerto Montt early on the morning that the boat was scheduled to leave, having already reserved my passage in Pucon. After check-in, I had a good few hours to have a look at the city of Puerto Montt itself. A typical port city really - dreary and industrial, with no reason ... read more

We arrived in Santiago, Chile and met up with one of Chelsey´s old roommates who has been studying there for the last year. We spent the evening making pizza at her apartment before heading out for the evening with her and one of her roommtes Andrew. The next day we spent ambling around Santiago and going up to the Cerro where a HUGE statue of Mother Mary hovers over the Entire city at an outdoor chapel constructed for the Pope´s visit in i don´t know what year. It was a great spot to stop and think for a while. Something about that perfect combination of outdoor space, quiet, and just enough of my religion really struck me in the best way. That night we took off for Valparaiso. On the bus we were calling hostels trying ... read more

Chile´s Patagonia: 1. Punta Arenas: Old Wool Boom and My Recovery Town 2. Puerto Natales & Torres Del Paine National Park: 5 Day Hike in Patagonia 3. The Navimag: Cargo Ship or Backpackers Cruise? Since last time ive wrote (Tierra del Fuego, Argentina) ive crossed into Chile´s patagonia (same but different beautiful scenary, only now on the chilean side of the southern andes). 1. Punta Arenas: Old Wool Boom and My Recovery Town I caught a bit of a cold in the chaotic weather of Ushuaia, Tierra Del Fuego. So i decided to spend a night nursing myself back to health in Punta Arenas. Punta Arenas is usually passed by travellers because theres not much to do here. And as such it was a perfect stop and a beautiful place. Its the most southern city of ... read more

... read more

If I was to ask you; where can you buy a steak the size of your plate for $6? Or where is the capital of south American football? Or where do they start to go out for a night out at 2am? The answer Buenos Aires, Argentina! So this is the 1st leg of my South American adventure. After arriving from a long and uncomfortable flight on the worlds cheapest airline I met James in our hostel, cleaned up and went out. We soon found out that the first weekend we were there it was 'El Classico', it's only the biggest game in south American football with Boca Juniors playing Riverplate. These are Buenos Aires (BA) two biggest teams and have as fierce rivalry as any other, so we bought our tickets and off we went. ... read more

Hola! We arrived to Santiago de Chile. After a short weekend with my cousins, we headed south to discover the famous glaciers of Patagonia. The first pictures are from a boat trip to Glacier Serrano and Glacier Balmaceda. Then we hiked (actually climbed) Glacier Grey. Its was amazing to see its colour from inside, we didn´t expect it to be that blue. The last day in Patagonia was an 8-hour-hike to see las Torres del Paine. No luck with the weather, though. All that we saw was clouds, clouds and more clouds :(... read more

My journey starts at El Calafate, Ram, Marika and Byron left me there whilst they went onto El Chalten. I was going to do one day's visit to Perito Moreno along with a walk on the glacier, then one day out on a horse ride. I left the lazy ones in bed as my glacier visit started with an 8.30am bus pick up. Then we had a journey of an hour or so before we got to the national park entrance. We were dropped for an hour and a half, so that we could walk down the viewing walkway, take in a woodland walk and have our lunch. Later the bus picked us up and took us to our boat embarkation point, followed by a crossing in front of the Glacier to the refugio where we ... read more
