Monday 15th June 2015 Being twenty five kilometres south of the Tropic of Capricorn doesn´t make any difference to the climate, or does it? No, of course not! However, as we write this blog, in a chilly 18 degrees, the rain is pouring down and the views are clouded over! Actually, we left Parati on Friday in pouring rain as well, and the weekend here has been hot and sunny; it just feels non-tropical now! Our bus journey last Friday, despite the torrential rain, was quite enjoyable and if the weather had been fine it would have been spectacular. The bus was an hour late and then the driver wanted his lunch so we departed nearly two hours later than scheduled, but this isn´t unusual! The Atlantic Rainforest is one of the most stunning ... read more

This past week has been good. A few days ago I went to work with Angela's sister-in-law Sonia, who is a social worker. She works for a foundation that organizes activities for old people who don't have anything....like arts and crafts, dancing, etc. It's right next door to a big school for children with disabilities and I think she does stuff for the parents of those children too. Anyway, she doesn't speak English, and neither did anybody there. We went to the school/hospital (its called APAE pronounced like "a pie"). I think she and I both just thought we could take a quick look, but the director came out and we ended up getting a whole tour. I went to every single clinical and class room, and met almost every single kid. A thousand kids go ... read more

As I started writing this note, I had yet another moment of great appreciation for how extremely fortunate we are. December 31st, 2010 and we had just spent the past few days by a most beautiful beach-house, lying on the warm sandy beach, swimming in the Atlantic Ocean, boating along the coast and the island of Ihlabella, hiking to the cliff top, eating and drinking the finest of foods and beverages, and sharing many laughs with some truly great people. So as the sun was about to sink on another amazing year, it was time for us to be truly grateful for everything good in our lives. Sao Sebastiao is a coastal town in the state of Sao Paulo, about 3 hours from the huge city. There are a string of nice beaches and coastal walkways ... read more

Neither photos nor words would be capable to convey the message that I wish to leave in my travelblog in relation to my latest holidays in Brazil. It had been 18 months since I last went to Brazil and since I last saw my family and friends! When I got there I knew that it would be a truly remarkable time. Erik and I spend few days with my brothers in Sao Paulo before heading west to meet my mum and dad, in Bauru and Marilia respectively. In SP we went to visit the Hotel Unique and had the opportunity to have dinner and drinks there. The building is fantastic and the view from SP city from the top of the building is amazing. The Christmas’ decoration everywhere in the city set the perfect mood. Next ... read more
