... and after a fourteen hours and a half plain journey, including a two and half hour delay due to frost, I finally arrived in Rio de Janeiro. After having checked into my hostel in Leblon, an area west of Rio, I went out to explore the city centre, by foot. Which turned out to be not such a good idea, as the city is surprisingly large. If you look at the map of Rio, everything looks within walking distance, but in reality the scale is somewhat deceiving. So I managed to walk to the end of Ipanema beach and towards Copacabana, when I stopped to have lunch. I there met two men in their late 40s who were having a drink at a table next to mine. We started talking, teaching each other our respective ... read more

Hello all, Dave here. Since our last update we've been to Paraty which were our last few days as part of the Drago tour. It was a lovely little fishing village with friendly people but not so friendly dogs. We were camping again and cooking for ourselves.......my group's turn unfortunately but our braised pork chops went down a treat. Voted best of the tour by our official judge. The day after we spent the day on a boat, island hopping. Working on my dives from the front and both of us working hard on our tans!! Mines working out a little better than Lau's. We returned and had a bbq on the beach for the last night of the tour......oscars night. We won best couple and I won 'man points award' mainly for my fire building ... read more

Ahhh, Thank you lovely people for your comments! We like it and keep them coming. Thank you Nick for the Eastenders news! Oh Stacey snogs Max, hmmmm! Once We figure out if we can reply to comments we will. One week already! We are liking Rio, a little edgy in parts (like on the beach when gun fire echoed in the background and no one seemed to bat an eyelid and when a guy asked us for money and we said no and then he said knife. But dont worry we just walked away, blagger!) but mostly relaxed and frendly. Rio has grown on us and the things we like about Rio are: Lots of street art - Andy getting bored with Paul taking endless photos. Freshly squeezed juices - no sugar, just pure. Pear never ... read more

Hello lovley people. We hope you are well and enjoying your day (let us know what your up to!) It´s very exciting to write our first blog entry. We arrived in Rio at 8am and first impressions are: buzzy, hectic, lots of buses, diverse and relaxed. When we got to the airport we were numb because getting ready became really hectic. On boarding a family of four took our exit row seats and lied through their teeth that they were theirs but their boarding passes said different! NO WAY were we giving up the seats. The lovely air hostess went to sort it out and came back with a very exciting offer. Andy got a leg room seat (OH BLESS! Well he did go club class to New Zealand) and I (who made it very clear ... read more

Well what a perfect end to our trip! Rio was amazing, fun, action packed and everything we wanted. The sun shone brightly for us and we hit the beaches everyday. Caroline and Dom were the perfect hosts and really looked after us. Our final night was spent in Lapa in a wonderful samba bar with great music and wonderful cocktails! It was the best way to while away our final few hours in a traditional Brazilian bar with a vast array of wonderful antiques hanging off the walls. In the short 4 days we had in Rio we visited Sugarloaf mountain, Christo, had cocktails at Copacabana Palace Hotel, visited the Hippie Fair on sunday (a better version of Camden market) and saw all the beaches, Leblon, Ipanema and of course Copacabana. We quickly realised that these ... read more

Favelas, Armensiedlungen, zeigt. Nobody is perfect! Vom Busbahnhof fuhren wir im naechsten Gefrierschrank nochmal eineinhalb Stunden zu unserem Hostel, das Whitehouse, das noch ein kleines Stueck hinter Leblon, also oe... read more
