My South America tour has finished and while I didn´t enjoy the tour conditions, I have some wonderful memories of some beautiful countries, cities, people and geography. Highlights: the countryside of Ecuador; the coast of Peru; waking up to views of mountain glaciers during the Inca Trail; celebrating my 31st birthday on the Inca Trail; the city of La Paz, Bolivia; the steak in Salta, Argentina; the shopping in Asuncion, Paraguay; Foz do Iguaçu on the Argentinian side; do-it-yourself ice cream parlours in Paraty, Brazil; the energy of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; buying an authentic Carnaval Showgirl costume in Copacabana, Brazil. The friends I met, especially my two room mates, made the trip enjoyable. We are finally in Rio de Janeiro for Carnaval! Woohoo! Our hotel is right in the centre of town and the shopping is wonderful! I bought a few dresses I wouldn´t normally wear but I couldn´t come to Rio and not buy some colourful dresses. This morning we went to see the Christ The Redeemer statue. It was a clear day so my photos turned out pretty good. Then we went to a neighbouring mountain and took photos of the city and the big guy together. Today is a good day because our tour officially ends and Carnavale officially begins. The energy is amazing, kind of like Mardi Gras but everyone here has a permatan. Hello All!!!! we made it safe and justabout sound. we spent the first few days in a small fishing village called saquarema.very pituresque and freindly. we stayed in a lovely guesthouse run by a young couple.met a nice bunch of dutch lasses who told us of there travels in brazil.only bad part was two days of torential rain. but on the last day beutifull sun. and guess what ? thats right we both got burned a lovely red. bit painfull when carrying bags but hey we´ve learnt that even in only 30 mins of sun you burn without cream. photos to come. as we havent been in rio for long . much love and hugs to all. ag n rob ps ma have pin nos arived yet? can you email them as soon as they do. ... read more

Witojcie moi kochani!!! Brazylia jest cudowna!!! Takiej zieleni to jeszcze w zyciu swoim nie widzialam, a wszystko tu rosnie jak na drozdzach. Jutro sie wybieramy do ogrodu botanicznego. pewnie bedzie co podziwiac. A rio powolutku przygotowuje sie do Karnawalu, zreszta tak jest wszedzie, w kazdym malym miasteczku i wiosce. Pierwsze trzy dni spedzilismy w malej rybackiej wiosce, Saquarema, okolo 100 kilometrow na wschod od Rio. Po prostu cudnie!!!! Choc pierwsze dwa dni lalo i lalo solidnie, teraz mamy upaly. No i niestety czerwone pyski i plecy. Koszmar do noszenia plecakow! Dzis pierwszy dzien w Rio, odebralismy juz nasze bilety na sambadrom. samo miasto wydaje sie byc troche przygluszajace, ale zobaczymy po paru dnaich. Rob mnie juz pogania musimy isc, bede sie odzywac jak najczesciej. Zdjecia tez posle, jak jakies porobimy. Trzymajcie sie mocno i tysiace buziakow ... read more

Rain! Rain! Rain !… a real downer Every store, shopping plaza, travel agency, art gallery and museum was closed Metal roller blinds closed the windows … no window shopping Buffet, buffet, beefet ..food by the kilo … some as costly as R$33 .. depends on the quality of selection Rice and beans on the menu … and not a minute too soon … really need fibre Good looking hunks galore ... everywhere! Women’s shoes are either high heels, high wedges or super thin almost no soles Metro, bus and ferry service every good … Metro a bit of a walk from the ferry Taxis … outrageous prices … only for Carnaval? Sambadromo … sector 13 … cheap seats … at the end of the parade …Perfect! Each school had only 80 minutes to complete the course ... read more
