No small dogs in Chihuahua, no nuts in Brasil, and now no biscuits in Sao...Huh? Thumbs up for Brasil tho´....the thumbs up sign is universal..the affirmative for everything, greeting, acceptance, admiration...like a lot of people see the bike and just give the thumbs up..it covers everything agreable, positive, conspiratorily (as in catching someone´s eye who has also just watched the same chica walk past)...but I think its only a bloke thing...I can´t recall any chicas doing it..maybe one or two up north... That last entry was a trial...went for dinner with Luis to a pizza place...seemed like fantastic pizzas, maybe something dodgey in the salami as I had ingested something that wanted to get out and proceeded to do so during the night...both-end-itis not to put to fine a point on it..so the next day I ... read more

Day 9 We arrived in Foz about 7 am and pretty much went straight to a dam which produces 90% of Paraguay´s electricity and a fair amount of Brazil´s too. After a tour of this, we went to a helicopter site. We took a 10 minute helicopter ride over the Iguazu falls which was absolutely spectacular. The falls are on the border of Argentina, Brazil and Paraguay. We then walked to the falls for some more amazing views. We got really close to them and really wet! Took loads of photos!! In the evening we all went to a Latin American show/buffet where there was plenty of food, drink and fun to be had. It was a really great night which ended up very drunken in a bar!... read more

So we took a two day trip into Brazil to see the amazing Iguazu Falls - the largest natural waterfall in the world. It is situated in the rainforest between Argentina, Brazil & Paraguay and to see the whole thing you need to see it over two days - one day in Brazil and the other in Argentina. We had met up with Rebecca in BA from our Kumuka tour and she decided to come with us. We were looking forward to a couple of days chilling in the Brazilan sunshine. We were told to check in at the domestic airport one hour before our flight, however the tour company declined to tell us that they had booked Rebecca onto a different flight leaving from the international airport. Added to this, when we arrived at the ... read more

Thurs. 20th. Paraty. We would recommend the Poussade Pouso Paraty and, if you're old like us, they even carry your back packs to the bus depot. Avery laid back type of place - where they have replaced white van man with horse and cart. On the way to Sao Paulo the scenery was spectacularly awesome, probably the best we have seen anywhere on all our travels. To top it all, on the way out to Morretes, we saw daffodils in bloom and the hotels putting their Santas! Sat. Another recommended hotel is Poussada Cidreira. We are sitting on our balcony, panoramic view of the mountains and being deafened by wild canaries... - oh, and a bottle of good red on the table! Does it get any better than this? We were very fortunate to meet M. ... read more

We started our trip in the wee hours of the morning and after 12 hours driving we´d had enough and stopped for the night. The next day we drove to Foz do Iguazu and with a little help from one of the locals, Jose, found a hotel. It had been raining all morning, but the afternoon cleared up so we decided to go visit the Itaupu Hydroelectric Power Plant. It is the biggest in the world and it took them 25 years to build. It was a free one hour tour, and being the cheap asses that we are, we jumped at the chance. Our friend, Jose, helped us to aquire tickets for the boat ride that takes people up the river to the falls. There is a sixty Real (brazilian currency) difference in price between ... read more

Arriving in Foz, we were heading for Paudimar Youth hostel, when we were approached by two young guys who had just set up their own Hostel in the centre of town. We decided a central base would be good, and they even gave us lift from the airport. Our first evening included watching the local chavs driving up and down the same bit of road blaring out bass beats... no different to Guildford on a Sunday night! Went to Itaipu Dam which is the worlds biggest Hydroelectric project. They lay on a free tour for visitors where they take you by coach to several viewing points to get an overview, and then across the bottom of the dam (the dry side!) where you see the huge 10m diameter pipes (20 of them) which carry the water ... read more

After our 20 hours unsuccsessful journey whale watching we have now travelled 16 hours into the middle of Brazil, next to the borders with Paraguay and Argentina to see the massive water falls. We arrived at 8am got a couple of buses to our ´hotel´, looked a bit seedy with the tramps lying next door but had been recommended by the lonely planet guide, had our breakfast (and made our lunch as usual) the room was fine, minus the paint peeling. We went straight out and onto a bus to go to the brazilian side of the falls. Got to the falls and went to pay. If you live in Brazil or Argentina or are disabled you get in mega cheap or free!!!! If you are english or forgein you pay top whack! (5 quid each!) ... read more

Wow, just check out this for a waterfall. There´s been a fair bit of rain around in the last week and so it was really pumping. The Brazilian side has a smaller area available to the public than the Argentinian side but both are well worth the visit. The falls tend to attract some crazy groups. The Lonely Planet guide reported there were a group of Brazilian guys in red speedos on the day that they went to the falls. On the day I went to the Brazilian side there were about 20 guys and girls dressed up in traditional German outfits getting soaked under the sprays. I chatted to one very friendly girl and learnt that they were Portugese speaking, German dancing Brazilians out for a day of fun. I did the Argentinian side with ... read more

Tuesday it was still raining tropical style. i went to hospital and we ended up talking about where all the transvestites in BA loiter. I went to my other placement, but the bus broke down (very common here) and i had to walk in torrential rain for three blocks. Sat for two hours sodden and cold. Had a good lesson tho. It degenerated into teaching her swear words (its ok, shes 18 and she needs to know these things) and comparing animal sounds. Found myself mooing and woofing a lot, in fits of giggles. Tuesday night, we stayed in with a couple of bottles of fine wine, had loadsa fun just chatting and laughing. Turns out Andys dad is one of the most famous childrens authors in Canada, Robert Munsch. Oh and a new couple, (gone ... read more
