- Food: Lack of it and what there was tasted like cardboard! - People: Hardly anyone at the Brazilian side of the falls. The Brazilians really don´t speak much English or Spanish. Learnt basic Portuguese in record breaking time. - Area: Even more amazing than the Argentinian side of the falls. But border crossing hell - it took much longer than it should to go into Brazil and back out again just to see the falls. Brazilian buses strange with sawdust on the floor and the smallest turnstiles to go through on the bus which anyone bigger than me would have problems getting through! - Weather: It had rained so the falls fuller and more beautiful. Wed 13th: Up nice and early at 6am to cross the border to Brazil to see the Brazilian side of ... read more

They are our last stop in Brazil. The end of our Brazilian trip approached fast and felt like we kept a rapid and steady travel beat. Capao to Salvador, bus. Salvador to Belo Horizonte, plane. Skip a beat as our flight was delayed. Belo Horizonte to Rio, plane. Say goodbye to Maria Antonia, and the Serra and Pinheiro clans (who are some of the most delightful and generous people on the planet, and happily there will be more of them soon), walk. Rio to Foz de Iguazu, bus. We entered the Brazilian park first, and started the very well paved trail to the first of many look out points. Wow. Big waters (Iguazu is Guanari for big waters). Our entire line of sight is filled with white waterfalls tumbling over grey and lush cliffs, fighting for ... read more

hey all, we have hit the foz - foz do iguacu. we werent going to come here but its actually cheaper coming here than going straight to montevideo. but lucky we did! there are 275 waterfalls here and all would be taken aback at the size and sound it makes. it is beatiful here. only problem is its tourist mania here so you cant really get them to yourself... i like the guarani legend behind the falls so i´ll share it with you - the falls originated when a jealous forest god, enraged when a warrior escaping downriver by canoe with a young girl, caused the riverbed to collapse in front of the lovers. the girl fell and, at the falls base, turned into a rock. the warrior survived as a tree overlooking his fallen lover. ... read more

After three days of doing little more than sunbathing, swimming and eating, we thought it was about time we got back down to some ´real´ travelling. The Brazilian Cataratas (falls) We hired a taxi driver for the day to take us to the Brazilian side of Iguazu to get our bus onward to Florianopolis. Before we got the bus, he took us to the falls, a bird park and the amazing Itaipú dam. Our driver (can´t remember his name, lets call him Jorge for simplicity) collected us at 8.30 am and we set off for the the Brazilian border. After passing through immigration we drove on to the Falls. The National Park on the Brazilian side is pretty different to that on the Argentinian side, when you enter the park you have to hop straight on ... read more

We got into Puerto Igazu at about noon on Wednesday and caught a 12:40 bus to the falls. I could spend ages describing how unbelieveable they were, but you probably wouldn't believe me....... (that's stupid). Look at the photos instead. We spent most of the afternoon there, got a bus back to Puerto Igazu, grabbed our bags and headed over to Brazil. My Finnish (EU) passport paid off well at the crossing, no $160 visa for me!! Border control actually consisted of the bus driver asking anyone if they needed their passports stamped, we would have missed it if we weren't paying attention. We got the bus at 9pm and got into Curitiba at about 7am in the morning. Clare (a friend from when I worked at Bear Valley Ski Resort in the US) picked us ... read more
