Hello! Well, we survived the Pantanal tour, despite being eaten alive by an array of tropical insects, mozzies, and the delight of bed bugs for Liz. We arrived in Campo Grande after a 15 hour bus, and were whisked away by the tour company for another 5 hours into the heart of the Pantanal. We had opted for the cheaper sleeping arrangements - hammocks! Suprisingly comfortable, except for the VERY cold first night. Early mornings as the sun rose, morning and afternoon activities of Safari (in our traveller´s opinion - not a patch on Namibia!), trekking and attempting to avoid swarms of wasps, piranha fishing in a swamp up to our waists in the water and later getting to eat our prey, horse back riding and boat rides. The weather has been pretty good, up until ... read more

Leaving Santa Cruz on the “Death Train” (so named as it used to transport victims of yellow fever), I headed 650km east towards the Brazilian border. This was the first train I’ve taken in South America (as there are so few lines left open), and although it was really slow (16 hours), it was at least comfortable. By far the bumpiest train journey I’ve ever taken though. As soon as I got off the train I was immediately heckled by 2 people from different agencies offering tours to the Pantanal. They were both very persistent, but at least they helped me cross the border, which was easy enough. A short shared taxi from the station in Puerto Quijarro to the Bolivian side of border, a few forms to complete and then a bus on the other ... read more

The Pantanal; the journey here was something of an adventure in itself. The Indiana tours people picked us up from the hotel and drove us to Corumba bus station where we were put on a bus for Campo Grande. 2 hours in we got off and met the rep from Pousada Santa Clara and loaded ourselves, and our bags, into the back of a small truck. 30 minutes down a dirt track we reached the first major bridge which had collapsed in the middle. Out of the truck, into a little boat, 5 minutes across the river, and into the back of a larger truck. The driver plainly has the best seat and we bounce around in the back hanging onto our stuff while trying to spot wildlife. We see some wild boar, deer hiding in ... read more

Hi all, I have to keep this fairly short so apologies for lack of detail. So I ended up staying for 4 days in the Pantanal. It was an incredible experience. The tour was with ecological expeditions. We stayed on a farm in the middle of nowhere, about 15 mins from the main road and quite close to a long river. 1st day was mostly taken up with travel. 2nd day we went on a morning boat trip down the river and saw many colourful animals and birds. The river was littered with Caimen and they took the boat really close! We then went pihrana fishing after lunch (i caught the most - 6 pihrana and 4 other fish!) before cleaning and gutting them and sending them to be cooked for dinner. We then went on ... read more

Dag 135 - 137. De solgte kun ol paa kaeen, men servitoren gikk over til en butikk for aa ... read more

Day 243 - Tuesday 20 May Yet another long bus journey ahead. Today I'm moving on to the border town of Corumba. Its an eight hour journey by bus which is a shame as the weathers fantastic outside, but I want to make sure I got there in plenty of time for the Champions League final tomorrow. Not much happened on the bus journey until about 2 hours from Corumba. The bus stopped in some small village in the middle of nowhere and who should get on but Russ and Pa. They've just finished a three day tour of the swamps. After catching up on the bus, we ended up checking into the same place and then went to get some dinner and have a walk around. The one thing I've noticed about when travelling with ... read more

Dalsi vec, ktera me zaujala jsou mistni snidane.
