Four hours' bus and a boat ride south from Salvador'll take you to Barra Grande, an astonishingly beautiful little fishing village at the end of a peninsula. Quite honestly the closest to Heaven-on-earth I've yet seen. The whole village is built on the sand of some of Brazil's most beautiful beaches. Peaceful doesn't even begin to describe it and the people are lovely. It's slowly becoming an upmarket tourist town and now's the perfect time in its development to visit it. Lovely restaurants, hardly any vehicles and a seriously laid-back vibe. So beautifully off the beaten track it was unreal! All of this and we'd arrived right at the end of the summer's tourist season so practically had the place to ourselves. We got a fantastic deal on a chalet, in a garden full of so ... read more

So, with teary eyes and muitos saudades, I left beautiful Brazil! I whiled away my days in Rio seeing more of the tourist sights - Cristo Redentor (the famous Christ Statue overlooking the town), the Tijucu Forest (the largest urban forest in the world), lazing on Copacabana and Ipanema beaches, going out in the funky suburbs of Lapa and Santa Theresa (with a gorgeous view over Rio), going to blocos and participating in Carnaval! I was also invited to some BBQ´s (Brazilian food is always the same staple of rice, beans, meat and maioca!). A group of Bruno´s friends play in a band, so I went along to hear them practice, and they invited me to a Sunday BBQ in the outer suburbs of Rio, about 1hr from the centre. The owner of the house also ... read more

We arrived at our hostel at ten pm after four hours on the bus - well ahead of schedule. We were shown to our air conditioned room. It had all worked out well, the bus to Salvador would have been 16 hours, this would have been quite painful for Tas and her sunburned back, which was now glowing quite red around her ivory white panty-shaped ass. We were both asleep in minutes and late to rise so we never got to meet the kind guest who had secured our booking. The following day was spent getting our bearings. The town proved to be really nice, cheap and relaxing (the hostel had a pool). We decided to spend the next couple of days in Porto Seguro while Tas recooperated and we could catch up on the blog, ... read more

OK devotees, back to the keyboard after a few days off...in this episode we continue down the coast of NE Brasil, getting a taste of several states, I get drugged, deserted, mugged but rescued in Salvador, we continue to pass thru too many inumerable cute towns and gorgeous beaches to count...(but if you want the travelogue, check the discovery channel...or national geographic)...so, whats really happening? The notes in my little note book are getting more cramped as I´m down to the last couple of pages...not that theyre the last few pages, just the last few usable pages as every notebook starts at both ends for Really important stuff...´so the back and front few pages have the names and eddresses of people, phone numbers, currency exchange rates, time comparisons etc etc..all a bit silly really as its ... read more

- Food: Very tasty. More lovely sucos, the best breakfasts yet, frango (chicken), coconuts, Bahian moqueca (fish cooked in palm oil) - Area: Very small and laid back with a hippy feel about it. But also very touristy with practically nothing else here except pousadas, restaurants and tourist shops - all of which are quite pricey compared to Rio. Idyllic paradise beaches with palm trees, cliffs, clear sea, white sand... - People: Locals friendly but the holiday makers (mostly Brazilian) not so! Hardly anyone speaks English and felt a bit like an alien again! But very nice to have totally chilled out time to myself. Weather: Incredibly burning bright sun! Wed 20th: After a bus journey where I was the only English speaker on the bus, there was no food and the films were in Portuguese ... read more

bom noite- we write this from a little town called puerto seguro (meaning safe port) that is north of rio about 1,300 KM. it is a sleepy little town that serves as a jumping off place for the beaches of brazil both north and south. We have had a great time since leaving rio discovering little beach towns and the rigors of bus travel in south america. two nights ago we found ourselves extremely tired after our 19 hr over night journey but managed to blearyly drag ourselves to a beautiful call arrial d´adjuda. This place is absolute paradise. it is up on a bluff over looking bright blue or green ocean which is met by white sandy beaches. the water is like jumping into a warm bath tub. at night we got to experience our ... read more
