Hello everyone, first off some people might be wondering where are the photos? But, I do not have a camera with me on this trip, blasphemy I know, but if you want to see any pictures of our adventures check out the travel blog of Steven Grin (it’s on this same website). We arrived in the field on Tuesday, July 26. Ramon and Maggie arrived into Cochabamba, we all met with out two Bolivian team members: Julio and Bernardo and were off on Tuesday. We are staying at some cabins in Villa Tunari while working here in the Tropics of Cochabamba (also known as the Chapare). There are four departamentos (like a county) Villa Tunari, Shinahota, Chimoré, and Entre Ríos; we are working in all four departamentos- some villages are 30 minutes from our cabins and ... read more

Death train? pfft. It was a bit dissapointing actually. 14 hours, two american films (in spanish, though we got subtitles for the second one... then fell asleep) and some bad food. It was nothing more than a slightly bumpy train. If anyone died on it it was probably from some nasty meal rather than any train induced injury. One nice thing about it was the people selling things at the stations - when we arrived we would open our windows, lean out and buy cakes, breads, drinks, set meals.. it was great. Super-pullman class (one above 1st class) turned out to be little more than British Rail´s 2nd class, but it was good enough to survive the journey with some sleep to boot. We were tired when we arrived here, so booked into th first hotel ... read more

oh, if you are getting one of these emails for the first time, it means i met you traveling and i finally found your email. hope your travels are going smoothly. you can check out some of the other blogs of mine, chances are there is a picture or two of you there. I left La Paz on Saturday (I think) and headed for Coroico. On the way I met Austin (powers) from Norway, now he travels the right way - see the pictures and you will find out what i mean. Coroico is a little Eden. Warm, green and at an elevation of 1600 meters (about 5000 feet) is a relief from la paz. the first night stayed in a hostal run by a french couple, food was good, the beds weren't. So Austin and ... read more

I spent another couple of days in Samipata, enjoying the peace and the sunshine but there was no ATM and I was running out of money and time so I thought I should head back to the city. I´ve only been in Santa Cruz for one day and I planned to leave for Brazil today but I´ve already had to delay until Tuesday! I had a nightmare day yesterday trying to organise posting stuff, travel plans and getting supplies and by the end of the day I´d pretty much acheived not that much at all! Oh well, nevermind, its really hot here and now that I´ve explored the city a bit further its really quite nice. Last night I went to a concert in the stadium in the city with two really fun irish girls from ... read more

I´m back in Samipata and its hot hot hot!! woopie! finally! Today I visited the Amboro nationl park. Its absolutely huge and covers areas of rainforest, semi tropical forests and mountains. I visited a region called the Volcanes which arent the lava spewing type of mountains but just weird, huge, beutiful red mountains nestled together and surrounded by gorgeous forests. I went with two french tourists (who were a little strange and werent half as fun as my previous french friends!) and a guide who spoke no english. I managed to understand most of what he said but it was hard going at times. Before we started off he pulled a huge machette out of the car. I asked him why he needed such a huge knife and he said "serpentinas" I guessed thats that meant ... read more

Id had enough of the cold and the fog so I decided to head to another village further west called Vallegrande. Its a good jumping off point for visiting the canyon and village where Che Guevara was captured, held and finally executed. I thought it would be quite an interesting trip and a good thing to do before it becomes too much of a tourist attraction. I took the local bus which was crowded and really bumpy (hardly any of the road was paved) and i was the only tourist and after a few accusing stares (something bolivian are good at) people warmed to me when I spoke spanish to them. When I arrived I ran into Melodie, a french canadian girl Í'd met earlier in the week. She had been unsuccessful in her quest for ... read more

I arrived in LA Paz on Saturday night from Cochabamba. Forgot how fun it is to try to breathe at an altitude over 10,000 feet. Met up with Paddy and Suzi From Ireland at a bar they work at. this is the fourth time i have seen them, the first time was in Bariloche, Argentina. I´m sure this won´t be the last time. Also ran into Gary and james from Sucre, probably won{t be the last time for them either. oh before i forget, if you want to see full size pics or down them click here FOTOS On Monday Paddy and I did the Death road bike trip. We did it with Madness mountain biking. The trip starts at over 14,000 feet and drops to about 4500 feet more or less. The trip cost a ... read more

So here I am in Samipata, its a little village 3hrs to the West of Santa Cruz and is meant to be the "perfect place to chill out for a couple of days" or so lonely planet says but its absolutely freezing. Theres a fog thats engulfed the whole valley so its wet and cold all the time and its meant to last until Tuesday! Bugger! I came here for some sun! Also I have left most of my stuff in Santa Cruz (Im getting fed up with how heavy my backpack is) and only brought skirts and vest tops! Im so glad i picked up my fleece at the last minute otherwise i truly would be frozen! Im wearing everything Ive brought with me, including my pyjamas! Samipata is about the same size as Limekilns ... read more
