Hey all, I think last time I said we were going on a pampas tour in the jungle. We had to meet at the travel agency opposite our hostel at 10am and as usual we were running late. I suddenly got a migraine which are rare for me but I was in absolute pain. Got a taxi to the bus station. The bus was a local bus and was the worse bus we have been on so far and it was going to be a 18 hour journey. It was cramped, stank of b.o and was boiling. It was so full that people sat down the aisles. This did not help my migraine but we should have known as our luck on buses is non existent. Had to have the window open the whole time and ... read more

From La Paz we took the bus along "the world´s most dangerous road" to Coroico, a quiet town in the Yunga mountains where we stopped overnight, before continuing to Rurrenabaque. It was a long slow journey (16 hours), and we were a little apprehensive about it from the various travellers tales we had heard, but the rough dirt road was passable and we even managed to get a bit of sleep on the way. Rurrenabaque is an attractive little town in the Amazon Basin. In contrast with La Paz, the town is just a couple of hundred meters above sea level, and the weather is tropical. The rainforest is a stone´s throw away and this is the reason we came. Within hours of arriving we experienced a torrential downpour. While taking shelter in a cafe we ... read more

Firben pilede rundt, og værelserne havde høje lofter, store senge, store spejle, træmøbler ... read more

Ok so this is going to be a long one, so if you need to use the bathroom or something go for it. I started my trip on a Saturday when Ann (new friend from hostel) and I got picked up from the hostel and taxied to a tour bus. This was a little odd, but the jungle boat to Rurrenbaque is not exactly a popular thing as it is fairly new. We were joined by a Danish couple and started the decent to Corioco for breakfast, which is something else as you literallyu drop from over 4000 meter and snow capped mountains to hot muggy rainforrest in a matter of hours. We then had breakfast and were joined by the rest of the group which had booked from Corioco. The rest of the bus ride ... read more

/again this a bit old now, but better late than never!! Ok so the 6hr boat ride into the heart of the Madidi National Park (Amazon Basin) was pretty full on. We started off as 2 different groups in 2 boats, but about 2hrs into the trip the second boat broke their propeller so all the passengers had to join us on our boat. Quite funny. The scenery along the way was visually stunning and after the mist and clouds cleared the sun was just fantastic!!! It was a really relaxing ride for the most part, however due to some serious shallow parts of the Beni and Tuichi rivers it got a little scary at times. It is hard to explain but we had one dude at the front ... read more

We aide Nick´s requested escape and 6 of us head to the jungle and away from the big, v. bad city. Rurrenabaque is only realisticaly achieveable by flight tho some skinflint travellers get the bus, which goes along the real death road, only to be in bits on arrival and fly back. Im not that stupid and opt to fly, the road must have been bad as flying is no way normally an option! The Pampas, a network of waterways through wetland, was amazing. Swimming with pink dolphins, caymans, alligators (which we hunted at night in the darkness when the mosquitos were like a fog- pitch black & not funny), piranha fishing (in the same water we swam), crazy birds, eagles, turtles, sloths and monkeys that get in the boat, then some huge beast arrived unannounced, ... read more

The flight to Rurrenbaque was already one of the highlights of this little trip. The 19 seater plane took off into clear blue skies and spent the next 50 minutes crossing, just over, the top of the Andes and down into the jungle of the Madidi National Park. As we saw our landing strip, we realised why flights could often be delayed by rain... only in South America can the runway be little more than a football field. We did 2 tours, one in the Pampas (grasslands) and one in the jungle. Its much easier to see wildlife in the first as you'll see from the pictures. The jungle is interesting as you get to understand how the ecosystems work and just hearing all the wildlife that is around you, even if you cant see ... read more
