Cooking the asadoCooking the asadoCooking the asado

This photo is in the early stages of cooking the Asado on the terrace above the hostel. Jorge and Claudia are the two Chileanos that actually know what they're doing, and Daniel is from the States, and no he isn't a used car sales man :)
Well I've completed that 20hr Spanish course and I don't think I learn't anything. My best days are definately past me as I think sitting in a classroom at a desk hasn't got any easier for me. I'm loving Cordoba though, the weather is great all the time and the people here are generally really nice. They all think I'm a bit strange though because it's suposed to be the middle of they're winter, so they're all wearing full on jackets and scarfs and stuff and then there's me standing about a foot taller then everyone in my shorts and Jandals. Good old New Zealand climate aye...
Well the other night me and a couple of others from the hostel cooked up a mean as "Asado", which in simple is a BBQ, but it's massive, with way too much meat and is cooked over coals instead of gas. And the meat here is unreal! Dan you would be in heaven here, you buy your steak for the asado in like 3kg slabs, cook it slowly with onions and salt and lemon juice all over it, and have a couple of chickens sizzling away on the side, and then slap it all

I think I put on about 2kg that night, the meat was so good I just couldn't stop. And Jorge reckons he's got friends back home in Chile that cook better then him... I can't wiat to visit :)
on the table amoungst the salads and bread and wine and tuck into the best BBQ you've ever had! I love asados!!!

These two fine young men cook me my afternoon snack every day, because I'm still getting used to eating dinner at 9-10 at night. On the plate are four "empanadas", usually served with lemon, they are basically little pastries filled with mince and onion and maybee corn or whatever, they're delicious and you can buy them absolutely everywhere - there's even an Empanada Combo at McD's!
