Chegamos entao no domingo a noitee de calafate ha a dizer q e um tanto semelhante a bariloche, as vezes estes sitios fazem lembrar aquelas cidades/vilas proximas das estancias de ski na suica e austria... Isto para terem +- uma referencia... Pelo menos assim vejo. Este post e sobre o glaciar perito moreno que vimos na segunda feira. E extraordinario. Fizemos tb o passeio de barco que nos leva proximo do glaciar e de facto e impressionante. Mais uma maravilha da natureza e tao distinta do que haviamos presenciado dias antes em el chalten. Sinceramente pouco ha a dizer, e preciso sentir e portanto as fotos falarao certamente melhor que eu. Before setting off on my trip to South America, and on the many 20 hour plus bus journeys during my trip, I had read a lot about the vast region of Patagonia which straddles the Argentine and Chilean border at the southern extremity of the continent. I was fascinated by its natural beauty but also its history and, in particular, the steady stream of migrants who populated the region over the last 200 years. Patagonia can claim descendants from Spain, Italy, Germany, Scotland and Wales among others. Butch Cassidy is said to have escaped there and settled after his exploits in the USA and even some leading Nazis are reported to have fled there after the second world war, attracted by the region's inaccesabilty. So I´m really thinking about my lack of days but I´m still heading in the wrong direction, South instead of North, but such is life. This will be a short entry, but you´ll be pleased to know that you will mostly be viewing whales today :-) Wow - they came so close to the boat, mother and calves, they are so beautiful. I met Marisa on the boat, she has been travelling most of her life, and is now a Spanish and English teacher in Bariloche (she is 68 but looks amazing, it must be something in the water) and I am hopefully going to visit her for afternoon tea, she loves Earl Grey tea, and may be a useful contact for work, who knows..... Wyruszylismy z El Calafate o 7.00, zeby być na lodowcu, zanim przyjadą tłumy cykaczy. I udało sie. O 8.30 zaparkowalismy naszego Forda Eko 4x4 na pustym parkingu. Byliśmy sam na sam z potężnym Perito Moreno. Lodowiec wyglada troche tak, jakby wciekly czarownik nagle zamrozil wodospady Iguazu. Płynąca pionowo woda stanęła na powierzchni 250km2, i spadajac z wysokosci 70 metrow, stanowiąc trzecie co wielkości na swiecie źródło świeżej wody. Podobnie jak przy wodospadach, vis a vis lodowca poprowadzone są kładki, ktore pozwalają oglądać go naprawdę z bliska. Powietrze wokół pachnie jak "na nartach" - pewnie dlatego, ze te śmieszne kawałki lodu, dumnie w Europie zwane lodowcami i tak chętnie wykorzystywane do uprawiania zimowych sportów, to najbliżej, jak dotąd byłam koło takiego żywiołu.
