Candy and I went to the park, where the "Tango" was going on. I gave it a try. I don´t know about the Tango, but the girl was nice!.. Today, we went to the "pink House which is the Argentine version of the "White House" but, we couldn´t go through it, because of a protest against the President was scheduled to take place. Friendly Public protests happen regularly here. It´s a part of their culture.... let´s go protest something tomorrow!....OK! Sounds good....Oh, Let´s share a "mate" and talk about it...Gary & Candy in Buenos Aires!!! ... read more

Candy & I took the the fast boat across the biggest river we have ever seen! It took 45 min. to cross at high boat speeds. Colonia, Urugray reminds me of Eurika,Springs, Ar except from the 1700´S, and with a French/Italian flare. One of the most interesting cultural habit of these friendly and kind people is there relationship with a type of tea-like herb called "Mate". It´s like don´t leave home without it! And, it takes a thermos of hot water and fresh herbs along with a "Mates"(a gourd that is cleaned out and decorarted for this purpose). Traditionally, they pass it around from person to person in a group while socializing with friends. I tried it their way. Yup, reluctently, but, what the heck...When in Rome... or that is, when in Urugray. By the way, ... read more

I moved into a new apartment yesterday and love it. It's only about 8 blocks from where I was living before, but much bigger, a little quieter and closer to the really cool part of Palermo with great places to go out. It has a great patio with a grill which I will put to use this weekend. Last weekend a friend of mine had a BBQ (asado) and he began teaching me the ways of the Argentinean BBQ. A BBQ, called an "Asado" here, is a science in Argentina. All the cooking involves real wood or natural coal, none of this match-lit stuff we use which affects the flavor of the meat. The meat here is claimed to be some of the best in the world too, so much so that you don't even need ... read more

We haven't checked these out yet, but think we'll put some on of the Brazilian animals, and then the recent ones from BA. It's windy and cold today, so those of you enjoying the 90 degree plus weather in LR soak up some sun for us!... read more

We brought the wrong memory stix to the internet cafe, so I'm downloading more Brazilian pictures. Hope you enjoy them! We moved into our new flat today. It's on the 5th floor of a building in the middle of Recoleta--the shopping district and trendy part of Buenos Aires. I'll get some of those pictures tomorrow. We love walking out and down the street to cafes, shops, restaurants, movies, florists, etc. etc. Went to see "Being Julia" this afternoon. Good movie. As soon as we finish here, we're looking for a nice spot for a small dinner then back to the flat. It's 9:30pm now. We're getting in the BA lifestyle! (only because we had a 2 hour nappie this afternoon--HA) Will add latest pics tomorrow, I promise! Love to all. Garyand Candy... read more

3 500 meter over bakken. Halvt minutt fritt fall. Og vi har alt paa film. Sjekk ut bildene!... read more

Sorry we don't have new pictures on line. We'll definitely do that tomorrow. We'l leaving our B&B tomorrow and moving to a flat in the Recoleta neighborhood. We were taxi-ing there every day anyway, so we decided to change. The flat over looks the Recoleta Cemetary and several other interesting places and has a bedroom plus living room, kitchen, etc. I dread packing all this stuff and moving, but guess that's part of it. We will probably take a day trip to Tigre, or to Colonia next week. Those are smaller areas close to Buenos Aires where city people take vacations. Gary and I are getting into the "Argentine" grove by sleeping later and dining later! We took a day of rest yesterday- in bed by 10 and up by 10 this morning! HA. We have ... read more

Hei hei!

We've been in BA since Thursday night and are staying in a great B&B in a residential neighborhood. We even have a computer in the house that we can use at any time (much better than a cyber cafe), but we haven´t found the time to sit and add anything. the city is totally different from the other Latin Amer. countries we've been in and all the books say it resembles Paris because of the European immigration influence, so even though we've never been to europe, we think it looks like Paris, too! Because of the great financial crisis the country has experienced, prices are much diminished from 5 years ago -- the exchange rate is about 3 to 1, so it's nice for tourists. not so nice for the residents. They are very concerned about ... read more
