Tv On The Radio - Will Do
Andrew Stewart, my good friend, decided to join me once again for a small portion of my trip. This time in Buenos Aires, Argentina! Andrew and I seem to drink far too much and stay up far too late when we backpack together. This is bad news when you consider we would be meeting up in the South American party headquarters! We took advantage of Buenos Aires and never made it to bed before 5am for 8 straight days.
After the first couple days of partying in Buenos Aires we decided that we needed a break. Martu, Dani and Tatiana had kept Andrew and I out drinking and dancing until the sun came up too many days in a row. We were both trashed. Change of venue was in order, we needed to get some rest.
Well as it happens, Uruguay is only a 3 hour boat trip away from Buenos Aires. We decided to head to Montevideo for some rest! Plus we both really wanted to see another country and our third South American Capital! We didnt catch up on sleep here, yet again another gong show!
We
would once again stay up late enough to greet the sun with a drink in hand! Great baby Jesus we were exhausted. But Uruguay offered more then we expected and yes we did indeed slow the pace down. I loved Uruguay and I loved Montevideo. The city and country for that matter seemed to be empty in regards to backpackers. We didnt see any other backpackers and had the hostel to our selves. It is the low season here now, and you sure could notice it in Montevideo.
The weather was amazing, the architecture was humble yet impressive and the landscape was as calming as it was beautiful. The people in Uruguay are insanely nice, yet they seem to have a fine balance. They live a tranquil, modest and humble life. They offered any help we needed and enjoyed so. They also loved to dance, sing and enjoy life. The thing I noticed most about the people in Uruguay is how comfortable they all are in their own shoes. By that I mean they truely understood themselves and what makes them happy. The guys there dressed down to earth and where incredibly friendly. They felt no need to dress
up or try to be someone other then who they are. The girls were equally modest and secure! I found that refreshing, we could take a lesson from them in Canada. The city of Montevideo reminded me of Canadian cities, in that its not so friggin large and out of control like most other South American Capitals. Its easy to walk around in, safe and clean!
We decided on our second day to rent a car and drive along the coast to Punta Del Esté and then away from the coast and into the country a bit. The coast is famous ofcourse and the beaches are amazing. Summer was over and now the weather was too chilly for the beach. But in summer, this is the place to be. The country side was amazing, tranquil and unique! If I had to pick a spot to build a country home in, this is the place, easily. It is calm, peaceful, clean, and beautiful. I didnt want to leave. Maybe one day I can buy a small chunk of land down there. That would´nt suck! Following our car trip around the coast and country side we decided to go out drinking
and dancing in Montevideo. Just so you know, they ALL know how to dance the salsa in Uruguay. It was intimidating showing up to the bar and its a friggin pro dance-athon going on inside. BUT we coped, with the help of a few 1 litre bottles of beer. Did I mention we saw Chris Bosh?
6am, we left the bar, grabbed a few hours of sleep then headed back to Buenos Aires, for a few more days of drinking there! Then Andrew was off to Chile and I would wait for the arrival of Alica before heading to North Argentina.
Andrew and I only spent three days in Uruguay, and we both wished we had more time. I wish I had more time everywhere I go down here. But Uruguay was special and I plan to return one day, for a longer visit.

Great Pix.....again!
Hi little bro, Looks like you and Andrew had a great time together. Good to see/hear! I like the pix of the finger tips on the beach. Very cool! Is it scary to drive down there? Which side of road do they drive on? You and Andrew look like a cute couple in your cute little white car! :)
