Visserijvaart

The Visserijvaart or Visserij (formerly called Vissenrei or Rommelwater) and the Achtervisserij are two parallel watercourses in Ghent, a canal and a straightened Scheldt branch, respectively. Together, they form part of the Nederschelde, the branch of the River Scheldt that flows through the center of Ghent. To make the Scheldt more accessible, a new canal, called Rommelwater or Visserijvaart, was dug in 1752, east of the Nederschelde, which was straightened in 1751. DSC_0340

Dawn found Monarch Empress waiting to transit the Nieuwe Sluis Terneuzen and then follow the Ghent–Terneuzen Canal twenty miles (32 km) down to the city. Arrival in Gent was through its Dampoort.
