Belfry of Bruges

Belfry of Bruges. Built in the Market Square ca. 1240 and rebuilt in 1280. The octagonal upper stage of the belfry was added between 1483 and 1487. "The Belfry (Tour des Halles or Halletoren) , 353 ft. in height, rebuilt after a conflagration in 1280, rises in the centre of the façade and leans slightly towards the S.E."--Baedeker 1910. Our visit to Bruges was a day trip out from Brussels. The Globus tour bus let us off at the Bargeplein coach park. Unlike similar facilities to enable the touring of city centers, this one is in a very attractive park-like setting and within walking distance of the historic center.
