Konstantinbasilika - Basilica of Constantine. The Aula Palatina was built by Emperor Constantine ca. 310 AD. One of the largest still-functioning buildings to survive from antiquity. In use as a Protestant church since 1856. Restored after World War II. Evangelische Kirchengemeinde Trier, Konstantinplatz 10. "The Basilica ... served originally for the administration of justice and for commercial purposes, like the similar ancient Roman structures at Rome itself and elsewhere. Trier was an afternoon excursion out from Luxembourg. I had last visited Trier in 1970 and was eager to visit again. It is only a short distance from the Luxembourg border.
