Onze-Lieve-Vrouwbasiliek - Basilica of Our Lady. Romanesque Westwork constructed in the 11th century. Constructed on the site of an earlier church and probably that of a Roman temple. Onze Lieve Vrouweplein 7. "The Church of Notre Dame, or Onte Lieve Vromvekerk, a late-Romanesque edifice of the 11th cent., erected on Roman foundations, has been restored since 1895. The massive W. end Is flanked by two round towers (restored). The late-Romanesque choir, with its ambulatory and columns with richly decorated capitals, dates from the beginning of the 13th century".--Baedeker 1910. DSC_0163

Our lunch stop en route to Bastogne and then Luxembourg was Maastricht. I knew of Maastricht as the venue of the Treaty of Maastricht and its role in creating the EU, but little else about it.
