General Kleber

General Kleber - Enseigne de Hansi Jean-Jacques Waltz). Kleber Pub sign by Hansi (Jean-Jacques Waltz). The site is La Sommelière today. Installed in 1954. The sign depicts an equestrian Jean-Baptiste Kléber, a general of Napoleon's army in Egypt. In the background are pyramids, palms and sphinxes representing Egypt where the general campaigned and was killed in 1800. The central panel, surrounded with laurels, is surmounted by a grenade, symbol of the infantry, and is decorated of a tricolor ribbon at its base. The six-pointed star is the emblem of brewers and innkeepers. DSC_0835
