Boarded our home for the next 11 days Looking forward to lolling around for the next few days at the 10 degree south parallel before we stop over at Wednesday Feb 11th Fakarava in the Tuamotu day 2 As we rest in our cabin on the lowest deck, the sea is sometimes submerging our porthole; I asked Terry to move towards the center of the cabin so the boat would tilt the other way to see the light! Very exciting, we have never done this. Our suite friends think this is very funny! Our cabin was changed at the last minute from a small 2 bed on B deck also to a much larger 3 bed with 3 closets- we are in B22- I complained about the change as we embarqued and before we saw it, ... read more

Day 1: I awake at 5:50am and find myself in a Sheraton hotel room 40 feet above the ground. I hustle to the bathroom to shave and shower. After I quick breakfast, I hurry to the main lobby to catch a shuttle at 7:30am. The shuttle driver asks me if I'm an officer on the ms Oosterdam. I lie and say that I am, thus not paying for the trip. About halfway to our destination, he asks me for my ID number. I tell him I don't know it. He smiles. I arrive with three other REAL officers at the ship @ 7:50am. I pass through security, surrender my Passport to the Crew Purser, and follow a dozen other new crew members to the gangway. I then recieve my room card, ID number, and a stack ... read more

It has been a busy cruise. A new director came on this week, so I’ve been training her. She’s great though and I’m actually excited to leave and let her do her thing now. And while I am very much looking forward to heading to the Triumph and seeing people there, I’m leaving great people behind here. One of the best parts of doing multiple contracts are meeting up with friends you know from previous ships. I’ve been able to spend some great time here with my friend Jason, who I know from the Destiny. It’s also been so good to see Moira and Dana again. The Camp Carnival team here is super, such sweet girls. I’ll miss them. Though it’s only been a few weeks that I’ve known them, I’ve spent a lot of time ... read more

Geo: -21.105, 55.5249Monday 02/02/09 At Sea, Hot & Sunny, Temps Air 27°C Sea 29°C I'm naming today Digital Disaster Day on account of all the problems I'm having with a ship load of passengers who just haven't got the faintest of what they're doing and the on board staff who are used to working to the lowest common dominator and forgetting that there are some intelligent people on board. It all started 2 weeks ago when I joined up for an advanced photographic editing workshop after 50 minutes I'd learnt nothing new and the topics I wanted to explore still hadn't been gone over with the time still dwindling away I had to leave the course which had already over run it's timeslot by 25 minutes as it was time for evening dinner, I was assured ... read more

I returned from Spain with the strange peace that only wild, free-spirited emotion can bring. Amidst people excitedly recounting the tales of their adventures, I walked around that night in quiet reflection. Sometime late at night, miles from land, I glanced out my porthole and saw a flock of seagulls flapping furiously alongside our ship. They were riding our wind, soaring wildly beside us, dodging waves and performing reckless aerial acrobatic maneuvers. The next morning, it rained. After lunch the skies began to clear, and rays of sun broke through the clouds, casting light down into the choppy sea. Spray leapt into the air and caught the sun, becoming misty rainbows. I feel I will remain a nomad for some time. * * * The passage to Morocco was WILD! To begin with, we were ... read more

Salvador de Bahia, Brazil FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Canadian Crowned Champion of Atlantic Ocean Beard-Growing Competition. Gerry of Dawson City, Yukon has been proclaimed the overall winner of the Inaugural Atlantic Ocean Beard-Growing Competition, an event held over the month of January during the crossing of the Southern Atlantic Ocean by a large gathering of sailboats participating in the Heineken Cape-to-Bahia race and World ARC sailing rally. Not normally a person to sport face furniture, Gerry was ecstatic when chosen unanimously over a field of 21 entrants by a panel of blindfolded judges at the final weigh-in. The weigh-in was held in the marina tavern of Salvador, Brazil. When reached for comment, Gerry denied that being a man of Northern latitudes gave him a competitive edge. "I will admit that the Yukon is a good training ground ... read more

Good Friday morning for us. We are now 4 hours behind EST. No photos today as there is nothing to see except water water everywhere! Check the Spot Tracker to see our progress across the Pacific to Honolulu. The Queen Victoria is a beautiful ship and still brand new. It is quite a contrast to the Queen Mary 2. The layout and the décor are like that of a large yacht. You can get an idea what it is like if you go to the Cunard web site and click on “Our Ships” then “Queen Victoria” and then “Virtual Tour”. More to come when we get to Honolulu on Sunday. Granddaddy edited by John Please click on the links below for the tracking map, the Queen Victoria Bridge webcam and the Queen Victoria tracking map. We're back home now. Showed up in Columbus with 24 degrees and several inches of snow on the ground wearing almost nothing. Wandering around the long term lot at Columbus Airport trying to find the car, then finding it after 5 minutes of walking around, Jennifer an icicle. The thing was covered in a 4 inch layer of snow and half inch of ice. No scraper, umbrella handle had to do. Rear wheel drive, she would not come out of the space, some chiseling with the umbrella handle got us out. Ohio is great. We get back to the house. I geared up and shoveled snow for a half hour, got the car in the garage. Ohio is great. Welcome back. Just got Tama's message, too late, we had already flown back.
