Today there were gentle rolling seas, with a temperature of 58 degrees. It is a little cool with a moderate breeze when you are outside. However the pools were open again – just nobody in them. It is our last full day of sailing without a shore excursion, so we took advantage of the opportunity to replenish our clean clothes supply. There was no shortage today, but we just didn’t want to try do washing on a day when we were off the ship much of the day. We should have enough things to wear until we get off the ship. We hope Sue and Mike don’t mind if we show up with a lot of dirty clothes.
This morning was a demonstration in the Princess Theater (not the kitchen) by the Master Chef of the cruise line. Usually this is presented by the ship’s Executive Chef, but since his boss got on board in the Azores, he handled the demonstration. As he proceeded through the steps, he kept not finding the ingredients he need, so we expect someone is going to be in trouble when they have their next reviews – but he handled it in a funny manner.
He made a 3 course fancy meal in about an hour, and then led all the audience on a tour of the ship’s galley. That was actually briefer than galley tours on previous cruises, but interesting anyway. What would be really interesting would be to see it while they were actually preparing meals, but there is NO WAY they would try to do that.
Unfortunately we missed the presentation today about Southampton, but the speaker yesterday said it was going to be pretty short since that is where most everyone will disembark and fly home. We had a light late lunch and then were off to the theater to see the remake of True Grit. Janet had not seen the original so it was all new to her.
We were finally able to get onto the internet this afternoon (must be close enough to Europe to get into the satellite coverage). We sent 3 days of blog entries earlier but still did not try to insert any pictures – watch for those in the future. But we also got the opportunity catch up on some e-mail, including the info from Mike. Glad not to find any crisis messages.
We had another delicious dinner. We have not been having wine often but we started a bottle yesterday for Janet’s pretend birthday and then finished it tonight. We have mentioned some of the great dinner dishes but maybe you would like to hear about the desserts. There are some consistent choices available each night (cheesecake, chocolate mousse, sundaes, or fruit/cheese). But each night they have four or 5 unique choices which you will not likely see again on the trip. There are always many good choices and it is usually a difficult decision each evening.
After dinner we had a choice of the hypnotist again or a classical quintet. Since the previous show by this hypnotist had not been too exciting, we chose the classical session instead. They were really very good playing their instruments but chose a lot of pieces of music we had not heard before. It was still very entertaining and we enjoyed it a lot – certainly feel we made the right choice.
Tomorrow we are back on land and start a series of days exploring new locations. Good night for now.
