If you are a dolphin lover go to Monkey Mia, you don't need to be able to swim as the dolphins come into the beach usually about three times a day. It is supervised but everybody gets to stand there while many dolphins come swimming around, it's a lovely experience and you can really connect with them. West Australia has beautiful sunshine as well, without the humidity which is a bonus!! You take a smaller plane from Perth to get there and once there you can either do cabin type accommodation or backpackers etc.... read more

Well I thought I would try this online journal thing and I'm quite excited. I've started it late considering I'm staying here for over a year but I thought I would go back and put some pictures on so everyone can see my journey's. I am living here in Christchurch and attending Christchurch College of Education. However, one of the primary reasons for travelling so far for college was to get outdoors and adventure. I intend to keep that in mind and am planning various adventures for the coming year. So far I'm missing friends and families. My lovely family in Daegu, Korea was amazing to me and I miss the love everyday. But I've found some amazing flatmates and a good city. I'll explore from here. New Zealand is beautiful and the people are friendly. ... read more

Sunday, 9 May I didn’t leave home until ten this morning and made my way onto the Hume Freeway by way of Yea, through Bonnie Doon to Benalla, The weather was good throughout the eight-hour drive to the nation’s capital. Found my way to the Rex Hotel. This time my room was on the first floor with a balcony that overlooked the hotels air-conditioner units. I tried two places for a meal that evening, both without luck, either too busy or booked out. In the end settled for take-away. Where I was staying there was a door leading to an adjoining room and through the door; I could hear the occupant’s conversations. Went down to the reception to ask for another room. Ten minutes later back at the room I packed up my gear and moved ... read more

Hello all! My name is Toni. I turn 26 on the 18th August and Darwin, Northern Territory is my home. In 87 days I am embarking on the trip of a lifetime! Very excited!! Pretty darn nervous too, but I think that's good!! At midnight on the 25th July, I fly to Sydney to spend some time with my Brother & his family, and also a good friend of mine. Then on the morning of August 2nd, I depart from Sydney (On Vietnam Airlines!) bound for Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon), where I will have 7 hrs to have a look around, then off to Paris just before midnight. I'll have a couple of hours to get a grip on the Paris airport, which will be very helpful as I will definitely be returning there. Then ... read more

Sunday 2 May 2004 Just after one in the afternoon, I left my driveway, heading out of town for another country job. I needed a change in direction; instead of going through Yarra Glen, I followed the Maroondah Highway through Healesville, then over the Black Spur to Alexandra. A short time later, the road joins the Yea Road, which in turn passes through Bonnie Doon. It was a nice change and the traffic was light. By four o’clock, I had arrived at the Commodore Motor Inn, located in the centre of Albury. As I walked into the reception, I noticed on the door it was a three and half-star complex. The room seemed to be larger than the room I stayed in, on a recent trip to Canberra. I unloaded the car and made myself comfortable ... read more

PNG- News # 13 (April 26, 2004 ) Brother Pat, the elder and mediator who worked in the Bougainville crisis, told me about a man who wanted to train with him. “But you are known in the community to beat your wife,” suggested Brother Pat. His answer: “She is not my wife, she is my girlfriend." Domestic violence and rape are rampant throughout the country -it’s out of control. In fact, all women are encouraged to wear black every Thursday to indicate our stand on violence against women. The power of the community of men is so strong that it just doesn’t make sense to report these injustices. Br. Pat also told me the following story that happened in his village. For 10 years one family had a mango tree, which bore much fruit. The neighbours ... read more

Sunday, 25 April Anzac Day March. Every year the company I work for, send half a dozen photographers to document the event. I always make myself available to join them. This year I had asked and was granted the same area as I had worked last year, between Bourke and Collins Street at the Spring Street end of Melbourne. My job is to ask the marchers if they want a photograph to remember the event. When they say "Yes" I take the shot then hand them a reference card. The company make the shots available to buy at a later stage. The first person I asked, declined and that response made me feel uneasy. Others were different and I soon had one spool exposed. The diggers you meet and talk to at this event are friendly ... read more

Monday, 19 April The Caulder Highway takes you from Melbourne towards the town of Hopetoun in the northwest of Victoria. I decided to stay at the Hopetoun Hotel/Motel. The rooms are pretty basic but the meals are the good old country style which suits me down to the ground. After a short walk around town I found the Kindergarten I was to work in the next day. For the life of me I could not remember being there before but there wasn't another centre in town so it must have been the same one I had visited two years earlier. On the outskirts of town I took a long walk around Lake Lascelles. It has been more then a couple of years since it has seen any water. This drought is evident in many places I ... read more

Well, what can I tell you about Melbourne? I loved it! I went for 6 weeks and ended up staying about 4 months! It was time to get a job, money was running out and in turn so was the fun. Melbourne was going to be the place to build up the funds again. If only it was that easy! I was a bit naïve and thought I would just pick up work in a couple of days, well you can if you want to work on commission only. I did an evening cleaning job for around a week, which was heaps of fun but then landed a telesales job. I didn’t expect to enjoy it or be able to do it, but when you really need the money and put your mind to something the ... read more
