Well, we survived!! Today after a long recovering night of sleep we thought we'd give a quick update of the last few days on the largest sand island in the world - and also Jill's birthday! What i thought would be a macho 3 days of driving a 4x4 was slightly dampened by the fact the jeeps were painted bright PINK!! This was so they could be easily identified (and they could definitely be) apparently! The first day (Sunday) we did the group shopping and faced a race against time to get to the barge due to some key problems! I then had to reverse park the 4x4 on the barge at breakneck speeds to keep the not so friendly barge staff from screaming at me - this was a terrifying experience! We then heading along ... read more

Hi, I am in Noosa right now. Well lets say until tomorrow. Noosa is a small town, but with european flair. The atmosphere is really enjoyable. I even tried surfing for the second time. But the waves on the sunshine beach were just to strong. I felt like in a washing mashine. I could hardly get off the shore... and splash the waves tumbled me around. Now I can imagine how people drown in the waves on a shore. Today I will just hire a body board (a very small and easy to use board) and hope to enjoy it more, than yesterdays disaster. :-/ Noosa itself looks very clean and tidy. The centre looks like a typical holiday town. Bars, clubs, Exspensive restaurants and boutiques. The main beach is very croweded, but once you go ... read more

After a 15 hour Journey the day, Which I’ll have to say was pretty uninteresting, as bus journeys are known to be. I arrived late that evening in Carnarvan, where I was picked up by Doug and taken back to the local motel where the rest of the family are staying. After a good nights sleep, it's up early to have breakfast and meet everyone again. Doug then heads back to the station while Me, Tiff and the kids do the shopping before leaving the town behind us and head into the outback, to Middalya Station. All the kids seemed really pleased to be heading back and couldn't wait to show me their home. On the journey there, I told a lot about what to expect. The station it's self is half a million acre's. ... read more

We left Rainbow Beach and headed back towards Brisbane - the drive was exceptionally tedious and really the less said about it, the better. Eventually reached Koala sanctuary (promise made to Cara) thanks to some skillfull navigation by Wendy. Lots of koalas and other exotic fauna, including a very large spider which was crawling all over the car. Still very warm (hot even). maybe that's the reason even the kangaroos appeared sleepy, stayed overnight in a nearby motel . In the morning we returned some camping gear we had borrowed from John and Noelene (thanks again guys for all your help and hospitaity) and said goodbye to Gavin & Niome who return to sun-soaked Edinburgh via Singapore on Saturday. "Gidday guys" Then set course for the cool of the Great Dividing Range - Farewell Queensland and ... read more

Hey, weer internet!

Christmas is the biggest holiday in New Zealand. It’s the only day that businesses that are normally open seven days a week, actually close. And, as big as it is, it seems more low key than an average Canadian Christmas. Maybe it’s that the season is mid summer, maybe it’s that the longest day of the year is close or maybe it’s the lack of snow that gives the impression of less glitter. Sandals and board shorts are traditional Christmas dress, and why not? The day is most likely spent at the beach or around a BBQ. Most people have Christmas trees, the majority artificial. Trees are decorated a little more randomly than we are accustomed, with few garlands and lights. Feasting with family and friends is definitely a common theme shared between Canada and NZ ... read more

G'day folks! So, I've finally arrived! The flight was relatively painless. I managed to sleep enough, listen to "greatest number one hits of 1996"...including everyone's favourite...mr blobby! (Argh!), eat and watch the little mermaid! It was all good! I arrived at about 3am...so went to bed at 4am and woke up thinking "TURN THE HEATING OFF!" but it was actually sunshine shining through my window....then the reality kicked in..."wooohooo sunshine...im in australia!" I could have slept all day but decided to get up! Plugged in my adaptor and there was a huge green spark! Hmmm!!! Basically just toddled around with my cousin today...met a couple of her friends, they seem fun...and very australian! :P Went to a shopping mall type thing to get some 'sunnies' (im already talking the talk! :P) and a new sim card- ... read more

Well, I've not really been in the writing mode of late! Guess I've settled into life here and there hasn't been anything interesting to say. What can I report - well, the weather was a bit choppy for a while, up and down - never cold, but sometimes thunderstorms with overcast. I'm kind of hoping that the good weather is here to stay and not just for during the week. Yeah, that happens quite a bit here, the weather is beautiful during the week, perfect for the beach, then when I am off at the weekend, its dull! So I'm praying for a good weekend and also the weekend after as its Australia Day weekend!! So what else?? Well, I decided that I should look for a part-time/evening/weekend type of job in a bar or restaurant. ... read more

Well, it's 2am here in Darwin. It's really odd to think that I probably won't be back to Darwin again. At least, not to visit my parents... they're selling up and moving to Victoria later this year. It's been lovely spending time with them the past few weeks. My sister Amanda, her partner Darren, and my nephew Damon (aka 'my favourite boy in the whole wide world') were here over Christmas and New Year, which was fantastic. The last family Christmas in Darwin, as it shall forever be known. My friend Nicole flew up from Adelaide for a few days, and was witness to (and key participant in) my first and last big night out in Darwin. Very sore head the next day. Good night out, though. The time here has been kinda hectic. In between ... read more

We are officially on the countdown with less than 3 days now before we leave the land of Aus! Adam and I have been crazy busy in the lead up to our big adventure-madly trying to tie up loose ends at home and catching up with as many friends and family as we can. We celebrated our departure with farewell drinks and dinner with our closest friends both in Newcastle and Tamworth which was a wonderful opportunity to say farewell to all our lovelies that we will miss so much! With farewells almost done, we can now look ahead to what's just around the corner...Europe. After so much planning, at last the time has come! And so begins what we know will be the adventure of a lifetime...... read more
