Another few days have passed since we updated our blog. We have been busy. We headed to Queenstown from Te Anau and Milford Sound and met up with Tabs' Mum, who was there for a day or so. The weather was good and so all of Queenstown's many activities were running. The three of us took the shotover jet (power boat through a narrow canyon), whitewater rafting (down New Zealands longest commercially rafted rapid) and rounded things off with a spot of paragliding! We have pictures of all of this but, it was the normal pay extra for photos scam, so we only have the paragliding ones to upload at present (not bad though, we also have short vidoes of us in action to show when we get home). We loved Queenstown, it is quite a ... read more

One of the most unique things about New Zealand is it's incredibly varied landscape. The glaciers in the Southwest are a big attraction, and we decided to hike to both of them in the same day. Franz Joseph is larger, although currently more difficult to walk directly up to. Fox glacier is a bit smaller, but you can walk right up to, and onto, the ice if you dare. There are also guided hikes with crampons and ropes, as well as helicopter flights to the top of the glacier. Like all things New Zealand, the prices were quite high, and we were happy to just see them on foot. The glaciers were spectacular, and definitely worth seeing - IF you haven't seen a glacier before. We enjoyed them, but they reminded us a lot of the ... read more

Hi all! I am in Franz Joseph at the moment .. at the bottom of the glacier..but let's start from the beginning.. I left Sydney on the 3rd of January in the morning. I arrived in Christchurch in the afternoon and, after checking in the hostel, went for a walk around to visit the town known as the most ''English town of NZ''. I went through the cathedral square, the tramway, over the Avon River, the botanic Gardens' and the Belgian Berr cafe! It was a pleasant walk in a nice town. I went to eat in an asian take away.. There is quite a lot of asian restaurants in Christchurch! And then i went to bed. I needed to rest after my early morning flight. The second day, I took the Magic bus to Kaikoura. ... read more

Christmas is nearly over for Sarah and I at 10pm here at the foot of the Franz Josef Glacier. The weather is a bit wet and gloomy now but we were blessed with sun this afternoon for the 4 hostels at the end of our cul-de-sac to have a street barbecue and game of cricket in lieu of a turkey dinner! Not a typical Christmas for us.... Since we last spoke we left Napier and its art deco architecture and via a couple of vineyards weaved our down to Wellington for a couple of days. The weather was glorious....but the city is very windy which brought the temperature down to a more familiar Christmas feel! Wellington is situated in a stunning setting of mountains and narrow coastal stretches surrounding a very picturesque harbour. Some of the ... read more

Hey Guys Well i know its been a while since3 the last entry but it has been a busy week!! Since the last entry I travelled up to Cairns to have a final night with the Israeli girls (Michal & Ilanit) that I met on the Fraser Island trip, and some girls (Jess, Cat & Kim) from the Whitsuday Islands trip. Then there was only one thing left to do which was to fly to Wellington in New Zealand and meet Paul!! After reading the landing card very carefully and declaring that I had held a Koala in the last 30 days (!!) it was very strange to finally walk through the arrivals gate and see the man himself!!! 3 months is a long time! With so much to talk about and 3 months worth of ... read more
