So where have I left off, Ay? So much has happened I don't know where to start! Just got back from doing a 4 day trek in the Milford Sounds and let me tell you.....IT WAS FREAKING "SWEET AS"! WE had incredible weather, clear days, expect for the last day, LOTS OF RAIN and let me tell you, my 110% NYLON RAIN JACKET, did nothing for me. Drenched, but nuff said....it was all well worth it. Even after having sore knees and swollen ankles and feet...ajaja, for the first time i have fat ankles!!!! Aw, man. Hmm, just can't describe what I went thru those four days. My group consisted of 1 Tawaineese, 1 Texan (ME) and the rest were KIWI"S. Yes, the all picked on me, being short, female and TEXAN! But man, it was ... read more

Onto the adventure capital of the world - Queenstown! Having arrived late in the evening we crashed in our dorm room of the immaculate Pinewood Hostel, shared by other females and a new breed of backpackers we like to call the Hitlerites. Heading this gang is a Swiss lady called Ruth who deplores people that make any disturbance when sleeping whatsoever. According to the book of Ruth, people who get up early (as most people tend to do in NZ) and are packing their belongings or getting ready must be "SSSSHED" loudly and told that they "SHOULD'VE PREPARED EARLIER." Yes sir! Sleep naked as to avoid putting pjs back into rucksack and making zippy up noise. Yes sir! Brush teeth and wash face before going to bed. Yes sir! Remove bedding before sleeping. Yes sir, YES ... read more

Well, we made the Otago newspaper today. No, we didn't do anything illegal, it was just profiling the Dartmouth students (specifically the football players for some reason) since it's become a tradition for us to be here, apparently. There was a picture of four students, and an article of completely made up facts and comments, this coming from a paper that publishes daily stories such as "Woman hit by dolphin", "Barefooted man on boat chases burgler" and "Children tourture kittens". Hilarious. The walk down to campus still isn't bad, but today I changed my mind about the walk up, as the last half mile is at about a 45 degree angle and it was about 90 degrees and I was wearing jeans==not fun. But I can't complain about the lovely weather, it's so hot in the ... read more

Hey all! So I arrived in Dunedin this morning, after a 13 hour flight from San Francisco to Auckland, followed by a 2 hr flight into Dunedin. The flight wasn't bad at all, I sat next to a couple from New Zealand that knew a lot more than me about the new Moonlight Basin resort at Big Sky, which was kind of funny. On my second leg I sat next to a woman that teaches nutrition at U of Otago. The first thing I noticed as the plane touched down in Dunedin was how amazingly green it is here--apparently their December was very rainy and wet so it is absolutely beautiful here now. There were 5 other Dartmouth students on my flight, and on our way home our taxi driver told us that the town of ... read more

Spent today in Dunedin. Went to see the world's steepest road...and climbed up it. Amazing views, so well worth the climb to the top. Wouldn't trust the car going up it at a gradient of 1:1.126. Also went to Dunedin Botanic gardens, probably the nicest gardens I have seen on my travels, so well worth a visit if you like that sort of thing. M... read more

We’ve just spent the day eco-touring around Dunedin, New Zealand’s fourth largest city. We arrived in Dunedin yesterday evening, after a four and a half hour drive south from Christchurch. We arrived just in time to do a tour of the Speight’s Brewery. Speight’s is the “Pride of the South,” and is a part of the culture in the Dunedin area. The tour highlighted this cultural relationship, and gave an overview of brewing history in general, as well as the Speight’s brewing process. They still use many traditional brewing techniques, so it was pretty cool to see their brewing in action. After the tour we were able to taste test six of the seven beers that they brew. This was obviously my favourite part. Our guide taught us to “taste” the beer, instead of drink it. ... read more

Repeat: The proof is in the photos and their descriptions so I will leave most of the explanation to those devices. Up early and toured the town, including the cathedral art museum and the Cadbury factory. Left Dunedin heading north for Christchurch. More wildlife hunting with little success. The weather was fantastic and the water aquamarine. Christchurch is flat and sprawled. Checked into the hostel and headed out for dinner and then on to a bar called the Stock Market or something similar. I watched the markets close across time zones as the hours passed by. I spent a good deal of time sending out a mass of postcards. ... read more

נשתמע בקרוב... read more
