Te Anau, Glow worm cave and Bluff Feb 26th, 2009 Our last day on the south shore of the south island of the NZ started with a warm meat pie, the best ever in downtown Te Anau. We then boarded a boat on Lake Te Anau to the caves( I don’t like enclosed places). There, holding Terry’s hand I was treated to a new experience. We liked the blue grotto in Capri, this was different but wow! The well organized touring group in NZ has built up the tunnels to the inner cave and with knowledgeable guides the whirlpool, waterfalls and rock walls were exquisite. At the end of which we boarded a rowboat for 12 and were quietly pulled through a very dark cave with a dotted glowing roof which is the home of the ... read more

Well the trip within a trip has been completed. It wasn’t a bad way to see New Zealand. The problem after seeing so much of a country is you realize that there are bits you have missed out on. This is probably more so the case after spending a relatively long time in the same country. Ah well I am still young. It can wait till 2011 when I shall come over to see Jonny own Dan. The last six days of the trip have been uber productive in terms of land covered. Something like 500 or so kilometers. It seems like a lot more in the wind. The pain and the shakes seriously kicked in on the last day between Waikawa and Invercargill. I was generally feeling quite satisfied with myself though so the pace ... read more

So Thursday rolls around and I was just doing stuff around my flat when my cell phone rang and it was Bobby saying that he was in Dunedin and I met him at the library and brought him back to my flat where I told him he could crash for the weekend. We decided to go with some of my friends down to check out the Bluff Sea Food Festival. One of my friend's parents owns a hotel in Invercargill, which is just outside Bluff, so we stayed there for free for the night. We drove down on Friday, hung out in the hotel for a bit and then went to see "A Perfect Stranger"- I had too high of expectations and it turned out to not be a very good movie but it was ... read more

We detoured to Bluff - the furthest south town in NZ and took photographs before giving a Swiss/Austrian couple a lift back to their car on a hilly viewpoint with extensive and windy views over to Stuart Island. Back to Invercargill then took the scenic route along the coast through the Caitlins Once we had rejoined the main route we sped on stopping to view the waves crash in at a remote coastal viewpoint. Met our first serious flock of sheep on the road. The farmer indicated for us to pass but this was very difficult because every time a gap appeared I tried to speed through but the sheep ahead just quickened ahead of me to box me in again. Eventually we got through. We ended the day at Te Anau booking into a ... read more
