HAPPY NEW YEAR TO YOU ALL*** I hope you had a good one and enjoyed yourselves. I thought I had better do an update as we head out of here tommorrow to explore the South Island for the next 5 weeks. We have had a very relaxing time over the last 3 weeks, helped enormously by the vast quantities of Sauvignon Blanc they make in this region and the fact that Gail and Mike have a Spa in their back garden. Kiera has had a fabulous time with her Aunt and Uncle and especially annoying her cousin Natalie who has been a star! We have been out and about lots in the Marlborough Sounds region which is the north of the South Island and it is a beautiful area. Blenheim itself is bordered on 3 sides ... read more

MERRY CHRISTMAS FROM THE SLACK BLOGGERS! Wherever you are and whomever you are with, we hope you have a fabulous time and we will be raising a glass to you all. Of course, we will get to celebrate a full 13 hours before you!! Once again, I apologise for not keeping up to date quickly but we have been on the move a lot so that we could see everything in North Island that we wanted to see before we set off for Riks brothers on South Island. We are now settled in Blenheim for the Christmas/New Year Period and are enjoying proper beds, family life and taking a break from the road. Anyway, I left you whilst we were travelling around the Surf Highway, route 45/3 which we carried along until we got to Wanganui. ... read more

9/24-10/3 The South Island is the more scarcely populated of the two and allows for even more natural beauty to be viewed. Many travelers advised us that the South was where its at, and to budget our time to spend twice as long on the southern island as we did on the northern. We followed this basic plan, and it turned out to be very good advice. Our ferry dropped us and our car off on the northern tip, Picton, a few kms above the most famous wine region in New Zealand, Marlborough. Jaime and I wanted to take a few slow days at a Bed and Breakfast, and enjoy some tastings of the local wines. We found accommodation on a beautiful vineyard, the Tramminer Inn, which leases out its grapes to Huia, an upscale boutique ... read more

Howdy Well this week has gone ok, I guess! I finally got the hang of the vineyard work and now its ended, typical! I'm now making vineguards, which basically consists if folding peices of corrugated plastic into a triangle shape! You have to push flaps through little holes, and on Friday I made 800. Aren't I just the luckiest little bunny in the warren!! It really really sucks, and my thumbs were so sore I felt like I had trapped them in a door. Add to that the split skin around my thumbs and the sore skin on almost every finger, and my hands are a mess! However, relief is around the corner as this is my last week, yey!!! I really don't think that my hands will hold out to do the plastic-folding job, so ... read more

Hello All Well yesterday saw the end of another week in the vineyard, woo hoo! As the title may suggest to you, I now have EIGHT DAYS OF WORK left in the vineyard!! Me and Tania will be going to Queenstown a week on Friday and I'm sooo excited!! Finally some decent night life, as the scene here in Blenheim is not really that happening. Actually to be honest, there's not really a lot happening in Blenheim fullstop, apart from the vineyards! Last Monday was Tania's birthday and so I baked a cake and got some balloons! We drank spumante and had a giggle, was all very nice. The rest of the week past by in a boring blur, with the 'low-light' of the week being Tuesday, when I felt really poorly. Took Wednesday off work, ... read more

Oh my good lord! I hate my job, I hate it, I hate it, I hate it!! If anyone can think of a job that they've had which was worse, I'd really love to hear about it!! It might make doing my job easier if I can think about someone elses misery!!!! It has to be quite easily the worst job that I've ever had, and I've done some shit ones before, like photocopying and filing in a room on my own for eight hours a day, but this is definitely worse! I can't believe that I have to go back there again on Monday! I really don't want to. But there's not much work anywhere else so its either that or nothing! I've got the owner of the hostel on the case trying to find ... read more

So here we are just over a week after being in New Zealand, and how am I you may ask! Well all is going ok. I've finally managed to get a job on a vineyard working for a company called Four Vintage Contractors in Blenheim, which is in the north of the south island near Picton, where you get the ferry. I bought some gloves yesterday to keep my pandies warm , so hopefully it will be ok, although I think it is quite hard work. They pick me up at 7am, which meanes that I have to wake up at about 5.45am to get to the bus on time, nice! Sunday, Warren and Tip took me up to Kaikora to see the sights up there, and we stopped at Hamner Sprinkgs along the way for ... read more

My plan all along had been to get back home for the World Cup and spend the next month comfortably watching it unfold on the sofa/down the boozer, only to be interrupted by a full on week in Germany my mates. Seven odd months should have been more than enough time.....late April, 6 weeks to the WC I'm in Taupo and have only just scratched the surface of NZ. I've now got a terrible dilemma, rush the rest of my travels but make the WC or continue travelling at my preferred pace but miss the WC. I have to say this was one of the hardest decisions I've ever had to make (that's right I've had a tough life so far....). Spent the next 2 weeks, from Tuapo to Wellington, up and down mountains contemplating what ... read more
