Hello, again We'd envisaged retirement to include lots of holidays. Over the past 2 years it's been a long time between holidays for us. The last was to Tassie where we went to Tassie after a lot of housebuild preparation, but before the commencement. Overall, the housebuild project has demanded our attention away from nomadic enjoyments of the recent past to focus upon the design challenge, Council permit process, and the all-embracing build task. For us, the last 12 months have been hectic - we began the construction phase 'officially' in late Feb 2014 and moved into the house a year later. There is still work to do to complete the final aspects, but for us it's 'liveable'. In Nov, last, Bruce realised that being obligated to be onsite to supervise tradies meant he'd be hard ... read more

! :-)... read more

We arrived in Devonport on a sunny but windy day and after a lovely stroll around the town centre, we booked into our accommodation. After lunch outside under the new yellow parasol, we are off to meet Ben and Claire plus Joseph, Stacey and Thomas for afternoon tea at the Navy Museum. Here are a few photos from our morning stroll...... read more

This afternoon we went for a very short walk as Thomas was a bit wind swept due to the wild and windy weather. Then we had afternoon tea at the Navy Cafe. Photos are not very good as Thomas was not coming to the party and smiling!... read more

Caught to Inter-islander ferry and this was a very pleasent journey as it meandered along the coast across Cook Strait and into Wellington in 3 hours, We thought it would be like the isle of wight ferry taking 20 minutes but how wrong can we be. It was a huge boat with 5 vehicle decks and three passenger decks with cafes, sun deck and other levels where passengers can watch TV or sleep. Fran saw a pod of dolphins swimming near the ferry. We headed for a local campsite in Wellington for the night. It was like a supermarket carpark behind a Travelodge calling itself a Motor Inn. Well, if people can make easy money from this then I will open one in UK. Hope camping can only get better. Bought tickets to see England play ... read more

We were very sad to say goodbye to Australia as we had such a wonderful time there for the last month. We arrived in Auckland very late as we are now three hours ahead of Australia and has taken a couple of days to get used to the time difference. We went down to the marina yesterday but are finding the car parking quite expensive - $6/£3 for half an hour. we are going to investigate a few of the sights today - Mount Eden and One Tree Hill - hope we can find our way around without a sat nav. Have had to use my phone for google maps a couple of times to find the right way - just checked my phone bill so won't be using my phone again as a sat nav!!!! ... read more

An early start at 6am, as I still had some last minute packing and other things to do before our driver picked us up at 8am. All the other family members were busy doing stuff this weekend – Nat was up to her armpits with performances for the stage show, “Phantom of the Opera” that she was currently appearing in, so Justin was being Mr. Mom to their four kids at their place and, Jen was up in the Hunter Valley for a Manager’s Conference so, with all our usual taxi drivers otherwise engaged, Jen had arranged for a car and driver to pick us up and take us to the airport to catch our flight. Brother Glenn, sister-in-law Bonnie, husband Ted and myself, were flying to Auckland today to pick up our cruise on the ... read more
