We had another hard jog this morning followed by more work on Birdsy. Talita finished painting the stars while Ferdi started painting the seams of the frames with a zig-zag pattern. We found that we could only do short shifts, because bending over like that is murder on the lower back.
For lunch we had a fruit platter and then we headed for the Boesman to have a nap. Heavy exercise in the morning is hard on our energy levels. After an hour of shut-eye we continued working on Birdsy. We really like the look of the stars and the zig-zags and hope to have her ready for varnishing by the weekend.
We were very disturbed by news from “the homeland”. Seems that South Africa is going mental and we’re very worried about our family and friends. We read some news and comments online and could feel the hatred even here at the other end of the world. The news here also reports only one side which is very annoying. All we can do is pray that God will protect our loved ones and that His will be done in South Africa.
Today's highlights:
1.
Great progress on the painting.

After another hard jog we felt too tired to do much on Birdsy. Our energy levels were very low. Talita had another meeting the following day, so we walked down to the shops in search of an appropriate outfit. It was much harder than we thought, but eventually she found something that would go nicely with what she already had.
After lunch we had a nap and when we woke Ferdi wasn't feeling well at all. There's a nasty tummy bug doing the rounds. Both Mel and Nicol had it the previous week and now it seemed that it was Ferdi's turn. Before long he was on his knees hugging the toilet bowl and he spent a less than comfortable afternoon feeling queasy and weak.
After dinner, which consisted of toast for Ferdi and wraps for the rest, he promptly got rid of that too, so he decided not to consume anything for a while. We crawled into bed (with a bucket nearby) and hoped for a good night sleep.
Today's highlights:
1. Successful shopping.

At 2am Talita woke Ferdi. She was feeling sick
too and made it to the toilet just in time, emptying her stomach in moments. Her illness couldn't have come at a worse time. She had a very important meeting later today and couldn’t afford to be ill. Ferdi was feeling okay so he got our duvet and pillows from the van and we camped out on the couch, close to the toilet in case of emergency. One of the most unsettling aspects of the illness was the terrible pain in our lower backs. We couldn't figure out if it was our kidneys or just muscles that got strained from the violent vomiting.
Before going back to bed Ferdi prayed for Talita's healing. We desperately needed her to feel better so that she could be her best for the meeting. We tossed and turned for quite some time before we finally drifted off to sleep. At 6:30 Keira woke us. Our stomachs were feeling okay, but our backs still hurt. We got back in the van and slept till 9am.
Forgoing breakfast we had a shower and Talita prepared for her meeting. Her meeting went well and we returned home to recuperate. We were exhausted and dehydrated from
the illness. We watched a movie and Talita had a long nap and slowly we started to feel better.
Ferdi was able to have a proper (and delicious) dinner of hamburgers and fries. Talita wasn't feeling up to it yet so she only pecked at a few fries. We watched a movie before crawling into bed.
Today's highlights:
1. Good meeting for Talita.
2. Feeling a bit better.
