Our stomachs were feeling much better but we suffered from terrible dehydration headaches. Mel prepared an awesome breakfast and then we washed all our bedding and towels to get rid of any lingering germs.
While Team Smit was out shopping we cleaned the house. Then Talita made date squares while Ferdi went shopping for a way to charge that second battery that Graeme had so kindly given us. He found the perfect solution in a Battery Isolator. This little device is installed between the two batteries and allows both to be charged by the van's alternator while isolating the main battery, thereby protecting it from being depleted by things like the fridge and inverter.
Back home Ferdi had to do some contortioning to get the isolator installed, but managed to get it done without bleeding or breaking anything. He was very chuffed with himself.
While Ferdi had been doing the installation, Nicol had installed a new entertainment centre in their Honda and the ladies had prepared salads and corn for a braai at the beach. When we were all ready we headed out, stopping by the shops to pick up beers, meat and chocolate.
At the beach we met up with Mel and Nicol's friends. We had a nice braai and a few beers. Then the guys wanted to go watch rugby so we all went to Doug and Emerentia's place. Since we couldn't care less about rugby we just had a few glasses of wine and enjoyed being in that totally foreign environment.

We decided that the zig-zags didn't look good on Birdsy so Ferdi set about removing these. Turpentine helped, but required a lot of rubbing so he pulled out the Acetone. This got rid of the paint in no time, but also got him quite high. It's potent stuff!
Coming down from his high left Ferdi feeling weak and nauseous again so he had a nap while Talita played with Keira. We didn't do anything for the rest of the day and got pizza for dinner.

Ferdi still didn't feel 100%!s(MISSING)o Talita went jogging alone. After a shower we varnished Birdsy's seat frames as well as the inside and gunwales. The rest of the day was spent waiting
The sun has set over the last autumn weekend
From here on it's gonna be colder and wetter for the varnish to dry. While we waited we went shopping and got life-jackets and a couple presents for Team Smit. Once again they've taken in the gypsies and we're immensely grateful for their kindness.
Back home we weaved the rope into the seat frames to create truly splendid looking seats. The weaving was very hard on the fingers and Ferdi ended up with a good sized blister on his index finger. We installed the seats and were immensely satisfied with the new and improved Birdsy. The varnish also gives a beautiful shine to the wood and we couldn't be happier with the result. Birdsy is now very close to completion.
Today's highlights:
1. Varnishing part of Birdsy.
2. Making the new seats.
Thought for the day:
It's almost time to hit the road again. Our hearts are aching for adventure.
