This morning was drizzling rain as Mary drove us to the Pier to take us by ferry for the 35 minute trip to Waiheke Island and disembarked at the Matiatia Wharf. (Mary used to live on the island so she did a little bit of going down memory lane). Waiheke is described as the jewel of the Hauraki Gulf and has 1,000 years of history including Captain Cook’s visit in 1769 . The weather improved and was lovely and sunny while we drove around many of the little bays and then to Oneroa for a nice meal of fish and chips and listened to a jazz band that was playing. We then caught the 4.00pm ferry back to Auckland. The seas had become quite choppy for the return trip. Later we picked up Mary’s daughter, Ami and we drove over to Mission Bay to Ruan Thai Restaurant and had a fabulous meal. We fell into bed that night after a lovely day.
