Down at quay
At Auckland quay with visiting Dutch cruise liner in overnight Friday 24 October, 2008
We had an early call from Mary. Down for breakfast and booked out of the hotel. Around the corner for the free bus down to the Quay and got our Explorer Bus ticket. After passing Bastion Point we went to Kelly Tarlton’s Antarctic Encounter and Underwater World. This was an interesting place - you retrace the footsteps of Antarctic explorer, Captain Robert Scott and see a life-sized replica of his 1911 Antarctic hut. As you ride along the moving escalator, you see endangered sea turtles, giant squid, sharks, stingrays and over 2,000 fish. We then got on the Snow Trac vehicle and viewed colonies of King and Gentoo penguins playing on the ice cap. Was very interesting. Caught the bus to the Museum for a short lunch stop and then passed through various suburbs, the rose gardens and a photo stop on Mt Eden - an extinct volcanic crater - through the University grounds and back to the Sky Tower stop and to our hotel. At 4.00 John and Jan picked us up and drove us to Mary’s. Went over to Edward’s for a beautiful meal and very pleasant evening before going back to Mary’s and bed.
