Monday 20th December 2010 (Nacula Island – Eco-Haven Resort - Waya Lei Lei) A boat trip to Sawa-I-Lau caves from the film the blue lagoon was on the agenda today. The 1st cave was a large hall like space which was open to the sky, but the 2nd could only be reached via an underwater tunnel... As we had snorkels we were two of the first to enter into the almost pitch black cave, with the only natural light coming from a small hole at the far end. We made our way toward the light on our own and were surprised that it was actually brighter under the surface of the water than above. After exploring on our own a guide led the rest of the group to us with a torch for visibility and told ... read more

Friday 17th December 2010 (Nabua Lodge - Nacula Island) A coach picked us up after a rushed breakfast and took us to the port. We boarded the Yasawa Flyer, a large ferry, and travelled for 4 hours to the furthest set of islands in the Yasawa group to the north of Fiji. Our journey took us through a breathtaking blue Ocean dotted with small desert islands from the Mamanucas and Yasawas the entire way. Our home for the next 3 days was Nacula Island staying in a thatched beach hut at the basic but beautiful Nabua Lodge. We had to make do with a fan and no air conditioning, Richard wondered how we would cope? Electricity was supposed to be available from 10:00-12:00 and 17:00-22:00, but this seemed to change on a daily basis much to ... read more

Thurs 26th We were up from 6am this morning after going to bed about 12.30am as we had to pack our stuff to take to the islands. The hostel is lovely that we stayed in last night and is right on the beach with cheap beer and food. We had to catch the ferry to get to our first island which took 5 hours to get to. We then had to transfer onto a tiny boat to get to the actual island. Some of the way we had to walk in the sea. Every single female staff came out to greet us and to sing us a welcome song. Bula means - hello. We arrived at an island called Coral View. We had hot dogs that day for lunch- never thought id have hot dogs on ... read more

When we arrived on Waylailai island we thought it was a little quiet and it turned out their were only 5 guests checked in that night. We spent most of the afternoon soaking up the sun and relaxing in the many hammocks they had around the lodge. We had three days and this would be the most relaxing of our time in Fiji. We woke early due to the hot temperatures and lack of air con and spent the entire day reading and sunbathing. It was spot on. We also met a volunteer from a local village, Ema, she was from Ireland and had been working in NZ before coming to Fiji for a holiday and ended up stopping on gthe island to teach kindergarden. She loved it but i do not think i could do ... read more

Fiji- we spent a few days on the main land before heading out on the Yasawas islands and then back to main land. We visited 5 beautiful islands; Nanuya lai lai, Naviti, Waya lai lai, Beachcomber and Malolo Island! Spent the days on the beach, played volleyball, made coconut bracelets, went kayaking, celebrated Laura's 23rd Birthday, drank Kava, and weaved baskets. It was all very chilled out and relaxing. ... read more

My journey to Fiji was pretty arduous as I left Darwin at 1am to fly to Brisbane arriving at 5am with a 2 hour stop over before my next flight to Sydney where I had another 3 hour wait for my flight all this meant that I did not arrive in Nadi until 7pm and I was pretty shattered. I had one night on the mainland before I set off to see the Yasawa Islands. I was staying at a nice hostel called Aquarius with very friendly staff and service a good sign for things to come. Fiji is rugby mad so I was able to enjoy my nice dinner and beer whilst watching a highlight from the New Zealand vs Wales game from earlier in the summer - having been starved of rugby for the ... read more
