As I said in my previous post, Karen and I were making a trip to Caversham Wildlife Park on Monday. One of the best days I have had here thus far (:
We wanted to try and leave as early as possible since it was a bit of a ways away. 1 1/2 hours by bus and train, but we didn't end up leaving till almost 10. That was okay though because we still had plenty of time to see everything and play with the kangaroos for a solid hour, probably closer to 2. It was such an amazing experience its hard to describe it in words. The park itself has a few different areas with different animals in each. There's the kangaroo walkthrough which is just this huge pen type thing that extends through the middle of the park. That's the main attraction. You just walk in, grab some food, then pick a kangaroo or two to go feed. More time than not they will come up to you and ask for it. I had one of them grab my hand and pull the food toward him, it was pretty cool. When the other kangaroos see you
feeding one of their mates, they will hope over as well to get some. I had 3 of them at one point that I was feeding. The little joey that was by me put his paws on my leg so he could reach the food. It was adorable. At one point in time Karen had 5 or 6 kangaroos around her trying to get the food. One of them was a bit greedy and was pushing the others out of the way. It was kind of funny. Needless to say we spent most of our time in there because it was so much fun and we couldn't get enough. Such an awesome experience.
They also had koalas there that you could pet. They had a bunch of them hanging around in the trees but there was only one that you could pet because the others were not hand-raised where as she was. Her name was Karen, which we found rather amusing. The koalas were cute too, and very soft, but not as exciting as the kangaroos were. But now I can say I pet a koala so that's exciting. I feel like I have finally had a true Australian
experience seeing as though I played with kangaroos and pet a koala, the two most iconic things in Australia. And of course the surfers 😉
They also had a bunch of birds, especially Kookaburras. Those are cool looking. They had a wombat show too which was just where you could pet the animals and take a picture with them. We didn't feel like waiting in line so we passed on that. They also had Dingoes, which were absolutely adorable! They are just little dogs and so unbelievably cute. It would have been awesome if we could have pet them as well, but they are rather dangerous so understandable why we couldn't.
Obviously we spent most of our day at the park then stopped in the city on the way back to have some dinner and do a little shopping. Overall it was a very fun and productive day. I'm excited for our adventure next Monday. Not sure what its going to be yet but I bet its going to be awesome!!
