21st December 2005 Perth * Morning visit to the Perth Mint. Witnessed a gold pouring session and had some souvenir coins made * Afternoon spent shopping @ Harbourtown (factory outlet priced shopping, but with goods targeted @ the below 30s) - many great buys there for me - I needed a full day at least to visit all the shops! * Headed for Lake Monger but only managed to see one black swan - where had they all disappeared to? Maybe we were in the wrong region of the huge lake * Sunset @ Cottesloe beach was breath taking. But the sun sets really fast! 22nd December 2005 Perth / Singapore * Returned car to Budget @ 0900 * Some last minute shopping done in Murray ... read more

20th December 2005 Busselton - Donnybrook - Bunbury - Mandurah - Perth * En-route to Bunbury, had a stop at Donnybrook - famed for the fruit orchards. Visited the Old Goldfields fruit orchard but a pity many fruits were still not in season. Listened to an explanation on how apple cider was made. Made purchases there and at the fruit market in Donnybrook town * Lunch @ Bunbury. Wanted to visit the Dolphin Discovery Centre but learned that the dolphins had already come and went in the morning, so we decided against it * Land tour of the beautiful waterfront houses in the town of Mandurah - a beautiful place to stay where almost every household has their own boat to cruise through the waters! * The next 2 nights were spent at Alderney on Hay ... read more

My family of 4 took a short 10 day trip to Perth and Southwest from 13th - 22nd Dec 2005. A brief summary: 13th December 2005 Singapore / Perth Depart Singapore: 0910 Arrive Perth: 1410 * Swan Bell Tower - cloudy day in the evening so we vowed to return on another cloudless day with blue skies * Had an early dinner @ ‘A Fishy Affair’ in Northbridge * Night walk around the city including the Perth Central train station * Accommodation for the next 3 nights was at Comfort Hotel Perth City ($126 including breakfast), a good 20 minute walk from the city centre. The hotel met the bare essentials, but it was very cramped. The bathroom facilities were bad too with tiny and low sinks 14th December 2005 Fremantle - Rottnest Isla... read more

Well what can I say about this place, I see why so many Brits emigrate here. I mean good weather (almost) all year. Clean Golden beaches that stretch for miles and a relaxed atmosphere. The Aussie's have it good and I'm jealous and not afraid to admit it. I went up to Cottosloe on Friday, GMTV film there each year so people can say hi to the folks back home. Young Megan and her friend managed to get on TV. I however decided to go off exploring. Initial thoughts are the place has nothing to offer over than the beach, which in itself is impressive. But I'm told this place is the place to be seen for the young and trendy - rules me out then! Along the shorefront are a couple of bars, which before ... read more

(Entry by Gemma) We arrived in Perth on the 28th November and were joined 10 minutes later by my Mum and Dad who had flown from Adelaide. They had a few weeks touring in Australia whilst we were still in New Zealand, then we met in Perth for the last week of their trip. We had a fantastic time together. The first 6 nights we stayed in an apartment on Scarborough Beach, one of Perth's beach resorts. The best thing about it was having a swimming pool and jacuzzi which we used every morning and night! The pool was freezing, but it was a good way to wake up in the morning! We had a lazy day on the beach and spent a couple of days in nearby Freemantle (or 'Freo' to the locals), a lovely ... read more

After yesterday's near miss we awoke at 5:45am this morning to get to the beach again for 6am so as to try to get the dolphins again. We waited 3 1/2 hours and only saw them very far out to see using a pair of childrens binoculars we found on the beach. Would have waited longer to see if they came in but had to come to the "office" to get on with a days work and add all the lovely photos you now see on the posts. Still we did see a "sand dolphin" which had got beached ;) ... read more

So after spending 2 months on a farm i decided to get a move on and see some of this vast country. I packed up Sonia (my subaru) and headed for the horizon, i ended up in Geraldton the first day. Its a beach town with a marina and a shopping centre and thats pretty much it, so i only spent the night there. My next stop was Kalbarri and as it was nearing xmas day i decided to set up camp here for the duration and then head off boxing day. I met up with a few germans which turned out to be stereotypical (if i dare say that). I spent a couple of days checking out the national park and the rock formations. Xmas day came and i opened my presents from my parents ... read more

Hi all, Apologies for the lack of updates and photos. It's been difficult trying to pack everything in, find internet cafes I can use a laptop in and remember to bring my camera cable with me to upload photos all at the same time. As it is, I have yet again forgotten the cable and thus there havent been photos in the latest updates. Rest assured, I have plenty of them in stock and will update and upload accordingly as soon as I remember to put the cable in mylaptop bag - DOH! Anyway, that's all for the moment, hope everyone back home is well and looking forward to xmas / new year, will give you a call xmas day. Lots of Love / Wish you were here Mike... read more

We awoke this morning at 7am as we were told this was the best time to get down to the local bay where we could paddle with Dolphins that swim right up to the shore. On arrival we were told that the Dolphins had arrived and we rushed out through the visitors centre on the beach only to see them dissappearing out of sight. We hung around with Glenn and Magda for about 45 minutes waiting for their return but to no avail. Dejected we trooped off back to Glenns car and returned back to the hostel for breakfast and a shower. After Glenn had dropped his sister off at her work experience placement nearby we walked off to the beach and around the town before heading for half a beer at the local marina and ... read more

After spending a few days relaxing, we decide our last day in Perth should be spent on Rottnest Island, 2 hour boat ride from Perth. We hired bikes and toured the island, which is made up of lakes and nice scenery. Lots of furry little things running around, Quakkas - cute but vicious if approached! The weather took a turn for the worse today, it was grey and cold to what we are used to, so the snorkelling was given a miss. Great boat ride though. ... read more
