Friday 5 Feb A lazy morning as we try to adapt to the 3 hr time difference. We then had a tour of a part of Perth and headed for Subiaco where we had a delicious Vietnamese/Malaysian meal. Mike had a spring roll dish and I had a seafood Laska, a type of soup with jasmine rice and noodles. We then went around the Kings' Park area which has beautiful views over the CBD. In the evening we went to Fremantle about a 30minutes drive away. A quirky town with colonial type architecture and interesting waterfront. After fish & chips and a beautiful sunset we returned home.... read more

Trying to keep to up to date with this blog but time just seems to get away from on. Anyway Sunday I went to my first ever AFL game, freo dockers vs giants! It was a very interesting time Slowly understanding what was going on throughout the game, now I'm a pro! Of course freo won and not by much 151 to 44! Giants didn't really stand a chance. Here is a picture of the panorama view of the stadium with nearly 32000 people in it, and a picture of my ticket. Keeping this quiet short! Plenty of photos to edit from today and I have an interesting post coming your Way soon! Stay tuned :)... read more

G'day everyone, Paul here to update you all, it has been a long time updating the blog so thought I would take the opportunity whilst I have a little bit of free time and I did agree to write the next update. The last five months have came round really quick, cant believe we are almost half way through our first year! We are still living in the apartment at Shenton Park but living with another couple we met, they are from Ireland and also on a working holiday visa. I'm still working with the same company assembling farm machinery. It's been very busy the last two months with trying to finish the machines in time for seeding season which is coming up soon. Vicky has been working as an OT assistant, she got this job ... read more

I can't believe it's only another 8 days until I leave! And most of those days will be spent catching up with friends and family- I'll be on a plane before I know it! I would like to thank everyone who has been so generous with their donations. I have received more than I could have ever asked for- with any luck I'll be able to raise a bit more in this last week! If anyone has any suggestions on what to take, please comment and let me know! I think I'm almost sorted, but there always seems to be 1 commonsensical item that is forgotten! (toothbrush, hairbrush...). My first aid kit is looking majorly like a field hospital! Oh, also, any ideas for presents for host families would be awesome! Right now my ideas are ... read more

Hi everyone, Sorry for the delay in writing another blog. We have been super busy with Heather. Out nearly every day sightseeing. Perth has certainly changed since last time I was here. It is as beautiful as ever. They have managed to grow and yet retain its unique beauty and many parklands. The area that Heather lives in is lovely. Very handy to everything. It has lots of trees, parks and ponds. We have been up the north coast, down to Fremantle, the famous Kings Park and tramped all over Perth City. Over the weekend we are thinking of heading down south a bit and maybe out to the Midlands. Anzac day will be busy; as well as attending services; we will be helping Heather serve morning tea for all the marchers. She does this every ... read more

Well we made it and are stilling talking to each other. The trip into Perth was great and we arrived about 10.30am. Now unpacked and settled into Heather's home. It is great being here with Heather at last. Goldie now has competition with Heather's dog Doogle. I forgot to tell you yesterday that we saw the first part of the 'rabbit proof fence', which was erected between about 1903-07 to halt the rabbits entering WA and destroying all the crops. I can't remember its lenght, but about 2000klms. My dear friend Jeanette suggested that I bring a telescope with me to view the clear outback skies. I wish I had taken her advise. Last night was the first real clear night we had. No clouds, no smog, just wonderful twinkling stars. The more I looked the ... read more

Firstly, thank you all so much for the wonderful messages you have been posting on our blog. Paul and I read them with much delight, and appreciation. We are sorry not to have replied, but things at the moment are still quite busy (chaos reigns in fact). Please know that your messages are being read, and hopefully once we are on the road (four more sleeps!!!), more relaxed and with more time on our hands (!?!) we will start replying to our messages. (Also, please note that if you post a message it first needs to be approved this end before it appears). A propos getting ourselves organised, our caravan is coming along, and in fact our stuff is fitting in quite nicely...so far. My father has constructed a little desk for me to give me ... read more

Our caravan is now officially ours. Papers have been signed, keys handed over, and we drove our caravan back to Subiaco, after having had an intensive training session by caravan guru Jeremy Perks (a former South African, a friend and former business partner of the almost-as-impressively-bearded Kingsley Holgate, who came to find himself in Perth after falling in love with an Australian he met in Kenya). He taught us the art of parking, an apparently divorce-proof system he and his Australian wife developed and refined over the years to stop caravan park squabbles. In a nutshell, Paul, the navigator, gives me hand signals (gender neutral) directing me, the designated driver, into the parking bay. The driver needs to learn to trust the navigator totally, and to NOT look in the rearview mirrors (and this way, if ... read more
