DAY 180 I was christened Andrew Trenfield, and I personally like being him, everyone calls me Andy, even when I young and naughty It was always Andy. I am the last in the male line of Trenfield’s after my Father Derek Bertram Trenfield and his brother Leslie George Henry Trenfield, and as Caroline and myself do not have children then that’s it. The only time I have ever being aware of some else called Trenfield was when I was young and a family called Trenfield moved in to the “village” that we lived in, they were pools winners and people thought it was us! Coronation Beach camp site was great but we were moving on today moving up to Kalbarri which was the plan, we only stopped at Coronation for one night as we were running ... read more

When I signed up for this year, I never imagined what a huge part fishing would play on a daily basis. Sam wanted to shout the family a fishing tour in Kalbarri, until he found out that it would cost over one thousand dollars for half a day. So we did the next best thing….we hired a little boat that was probably one horse power and armed with our fishing rods, bait, tackle box and hand lines ( got the lingo down pat) we set off to catch some fish. A lone pelican followed us down the river, obviously aware of something we did not yet know…that everything we would catch that afternoon would be no bigger than Joe’s hand and would make a perfect feed for a hungry pelican. At least the boys got ... read more

Evening all. Left Kalgoorlie and visited a ghost gold town en route to Sandstone where I stayed overnight. Sandstone is a very isolated small town. Stayed in a caravan and went for a bush walk and saw the London Bridge rock formation. Flies were pretty annoying. Had a beer with the gold miners who were staying there, then had an early night before the long trip to the coast. Arrived in Kalbarri and saw the sunset, then the next day took four Germans I met at the hostel to the Kalbarri National Park to see the Loop and Z bends, which were tremendous. I'm in Coral Bay now - will upload the latest pics asap!... read more

After the fun-filled Shanks Family Easter, we all parted ways, not before a few tears were shed. Tash and I headed down to Lucky Bay where we knew there was a great spot that was only accessable via 4x4 track along sand dunes. Was the first 4x4ing we had done in Pat the Pathfinder so it was exciting to get into it. Other than a few close calls, Pat performed very well. We found what we thought was a great place, but the wind quickly picked up and putting up the tent turned into an exercise in futility. Gave up after 2 broken poles and headed to find another spot. Found an awesome spot that was both sheltered and a stones throw from the beach. Stayed here for 2 nights, sharing with the local mouse population, ... read more

We left Mukka round 9.30 and didn't reach Kalbarri til 6.30 at night. You do the maths, thats a lot of K's and long hours on the road. We took all back country roads and were stoked at all the beautfiul towns we passed, specially ones with petrol bowsers that a) were open on good friday and b) took eftpos cards. Dad told us a story bout some petrol stations round Australia not taking cards or some not taking cash, we laughed a bit and told dad that things should have changed since the last time he was on the road. Well truth be told not much has and precaution should be taken as to not get stranded. Once again - thanks for the heads up Daddio. Once in Kalbarri we were hit with the beginning ... read more

We have now travelled further up the west coast and are in Kalbarri. We are on anther caravan park in another unit. It is really nice and it is ensuite. We have big lounge-diner as well as the Kitchen, our room and other room with bunk beds in. We can also see the sea when we are sitting on the sofa! The units so far have been great (lets hope it continues). I think the move from backpacking to flashpacking is definately complete! As Kalbarri is right on the coast we hand a long beach walk on our first day which was nice. When I went out later to take a photo I saw a big flock of galahs! I was obviously highly delighted about this and took lots of photos. They were very tame and ... read more

Our alarm went off early as we wanted to see the dolphin feeding before leaving for Kalbarri. We got into our shorts and swimwear and made out way down to the beachfront where there was already a crowd gathering. People were standing knee deep in the water as dolphins swam backwards and forwards in front of them. There were a few volunteers in the water with walkies and one of them also had a loud hailer. She informed us that we were waiting for a couple more dolphins to arrive before commencing the feeding. The dolphins are fed from the beach three times a day, starting at 8am. The second and third feed are determined by the dolphins - they come back when they want to. Usually by 10.30am it’s all over and their three feeds ... read more

Went to Kalbarri National Park to do the walks but found that the car we had wasn't able to go off road to get there, the road was way too bumby! ( Even though they said it was accesible for most vehicules, a 4x4 is required). So we ended up doing alternative walks. We went up to Meanarra Hill, a look out point accros the whole of the bay, river and Valley. Then we went for a coastal walk, we walked from Mushroom Rock to Rainbow Valley. We got to see lot's of cool wildlife in the rocks then walked over to Red Bluff. This is a coastal look out point with amazing views. Worth the walk! If you are lucky you might even see some dolphins! It was a really good day...... read more

The plan was to stay in Geraldton tonight but got there and wasn't much to do so we kept going until we got to Kalbarri National Park. Found a lovely campsite across the road from the beach - beautifull coastline! There are a few cafes, restaurants etc so a nice place to spend a couple of days whilst exploring the area. The National Park looks stunning aswell as the coastal walks. Today was Chris's first contact with the "dangerous" wildlife... whilst cleaning the front of the car a very big fat hairy spider decided to crawl up his foot!!! But don't worry i left him there to die... thinking of the money.... only Kidding !!!!!! He was fine and tought the spider to fly... ... read more
