Hi all, dont think i spelt my title right but never mind, you get the gist(is that spelt right? i give up ). Anyway, what have i been up to...looking for a job mainly (i'll come to that later) but also on Friday we went down South again for the day. This time we went through the wine region of Margaret River and down to Augusta where they have the surf competitions and we went to the Jewel Cave (hence the title). So first off, we went to Flinders Bay, a little beach and had a wander along there, it was quite nippy in the wind . The following morning I carried on from Margaret River to Augusta. I had not planned on going here but someone told me it was a really nice place so I went for a look. The weather was like normal but I seemed to be leaving the rain behind. I drove through some massive Karri forests before finally reaching Augusta. Augusta sits on the very bottom on the coast and marks the point where the Indian and Southern Ocean meet. I went and climbed the lighthouse that marks this point and tried to look for some whales but again there were none around. Augusta is also famous for something else, Australia's best hostel. I had to prod the receptionist to return my key deposit to me when I checked out, which put another tick in the debit column for YHAs. Continuing south down Caves Road I passed yet more vineyards, including Voyager, which looked so beautiful that I had to stop and look around. The buildings had all been constructed in a whitewashed Dutch South African style which, with the blue sky and yellow/red foliage on the withering vines, was extremely easy on the eye. Next stop was Lake Cave, one of a series of caves in the Margaret River region. They had a 10% off deal for the public holiday, a refreshing change from many of the restaurants I'd seen that were slapping on an extra 10% for the same spurious reason.
