Welcome to our blog. Pete is writing this because Cheryl deleted the first one. Today we rode 70k with a 24kph head wind - not fun! Actually Cheryl discovered when she downloaded the bike GPS to her laptop that we had done 73.4km. The secenery was gorgeous - rolling hills through farms and loads of cowlike smells. The views were spectacular, and the ambience peaceful. The last part of the day gave us great views and we visited the Bay of Islands, Bay of Martyrs, the Grotto, London Bridge and the arch. All quite fabulous, apart from the fact that the shockingly debilitating head wind meant that even going downhill we had to pedal - not fun! At the end of the day, one of us was absolutely exhausted, one moderately tired, one invigorated, and one ... read more

Gday All Well it was a chilly night in Lorne and the morning wasn't much better. After a quick breakfast we packed and headed off toward Apollo Bay. There had been a lot of small landslides and a lot of fallen rocks along the road in the last few days so I had to concentrate a bit more than usual but it is still a nice drive. The search continued for a kettle for our portable gas stove. We had been searching for one before we left Tassie even Kmart in Geelong didnt have one. Well we went to the local hardware and Op shop in Apollo Bay, no go there either so we thought a detour to Colac was called for. So we went back up the road to Skenes Creek and turned off to ... read more

We just arrived from a overnight road trip to Port Campbell. On our way to Port Campbell we drove through the historic Great Ocean Road which z'd up along the Indian Ocean. Our trip started when we picked up the little red kia ria rental. The total drive took us about 5 hours to reach the natural wonder known as The Twelve Apostles. David was a great driver and tour guide. We took several stops to get pictures and had lunch at Apollo Bay. On our way to The Twelve Apostles, we saw a couple of koala bears on the side of the road. One was crawling on the road which we only drove by. The other koala bear was sleeping on a eucalyptus tree. The views along the coast were breathtaking, it reminded me of ... read more

First some information that may come in handy one day. Picking locks using a hairgrip does work! I spent a couple of days in Melbourne after Tasmania and one day I locked my locker key inside my locker. After a bit of effort with the hairgrip it opened; I didn't think it would actually work!! So Friday 22nd May saw me depart Melbourne for my Great Ocean Road and Grampians tour. Departing very early (not as early as some of my later starts!) we left Melbourne where it got gradually thicker in fog, you could hardly see the car in front! Have a look of my photo of the surf shops for the fog. First stop was Torquay, home of Ripcurl and Quiksilver, lots of surf shops and great clothes here. Along the Great Ocean Road ... read more

Hello boys and girls! Sorry it's been a while! Have been making tracks since Melbourne!! We left Melbourne on Monday and stayed at Geelong for the night...u may recognise that place as they were in the AFL final...we saw the AFL final in Margaret River...its a massive event over here in Oz. Good times. Geelong was a nice place, felt more 'normal' than some other sketchy places that we have stayed in! The Wicked was a really fun part of our trip! A headturner and great to drive! Wasnt boring, we did 1200km in total. In Geelong we stayed near the beach...trying to rack my brain!! That's right my previous blog came from the seedy gamers place! It's all coming back now!! (quite dan! says my memory is shot). Ah yes how can i forget that ... read more

We are bit disappointed to not be able to bring home a tshirt or sweatshirt espousing Portland, Victoria. We did happen to see a tshirt in one shop with the Nike logo and the script of “Beaverton, Oregon” on it. Pretty funny. We spent some time today in a town called Warrnambool (great name, I think). We visited a living history museum called Flagstaff Hill that focuses on life on the Southern Ocean coast. We were a bit cold wandering through the exhibits, but it was still quite fun. From there we embarked on the Great Ocean Road. This is a wonderful drive about 200 miles along the coast. We stop at viewpoints and overlooks for photos. In honor of our friends Glen and Karen Campbell, we are staying at Port Campbell tonight about midway through ... read more

We’re back on the mainland of Australia after having taken a 6 AM flight from Hobart to Melbourne which included getting on the wrong bus and having to run to catch the right one. With all our luggage in tow! It is good to laugh at ourselves. We arranged for a shuttle bus to the airport at 4:45 AM and they said they would pick us up around the corner from our hotel. While we waited there, a shuttle pulled up in front of our hotel. We quickly brought our stuff back down there and loaded it on the bus. After a few moments, the driver looked at our vouchers and told us we were on the wrong bus. We got out and grabbed our luggage, only to see the shuttle we needed pulling up down ... read more

The following morning was much brighter, a little chilly still, but the torrential rain had passed and the massive breakers at the end of the harbour had subsided somewhat. As it was quite early in the day we thought we would try and revisit Loch Ard Gorge again, before we went off to the Otway Fly. Our first glimpse of the gorge was of the beach at the end and the harbour-like area between the cliffs. It all seemed quite passive and Chris was a bit disappointed, after the dramatic landscape at the Twelve Apostles the day before. We followed the path along the cliff and rounded the corner to see pounding ten foot high waves smashing of the seaward side of the gorge. This had unfortunately been the scene of a shipwreck, I think at ... read more

Back to good old Melbourne Australasia » Australia » Victoria » Port Campbell By KatieDJuly 11th 2007Katie Duggan We got up early and as reluctant as we were to leave our snug beds we knew we'd lots of driving to do. So we went to see lots more rock formations around the coast. We went to see where some ships were wrecked, lots have happened off the coast, it's not called the Shipwreck coast for nothing. On the road back towards Melbourne we decided to go see the 12 apostles to try to get better pictures in the sunlight. We drove onto Apollo Bay and stopped off for some lunch ... read more
