Day 310 - Devonport, Tasmania to Box Hill, Victoria We got our wish last night, the road was quiet and we did get a decent nights sleep. Darryl watched the ferry terminal’s goings on till quite late as we could see it all from where we’re parked and this morning we watched as the ferry arrived from Melbourne. He’s already satisfied his ‘we must be early, we can’t be late’ strategy by parking within spitting distance so he’s got a birds eye view on the queue and therefore isn’t in a rush for us to join it until he can see the incoming traffic has been unloaded! He’s a smart cookie. When we do finally drive round and head through the gates, we’re scrutinised in pretty much the same way as we were when we boarded ... read more

Day 287 - Box Hill North Grant was off to work at half six this morning but we just about managed to nod back off to sleep after his car left the street!! When we did drag ourselves out of bed the girls were already up and about in the family room with a new game to keep them occupied, make Daisy jump over Charlotte! It kept them out of trouble for quite a while and then we got a call from Grant to say that if we wanted to go and see him at work we could. That sounded like fun so we got dressed and headed out to the police station. Since he was a kid I remember Grant wanting to be a policeman so it comes as no surprise that he loves his ... read more

Day 285 - Box Hill North We were up and about pretty early this morning with a plan of attack for the local Op Shops! We’re off to Tasmania on Monday and need to get a few things but the list isn’t too long though it ranges from long trousers for Darryl to some sort of light weight water proof jacket for me. It was a bit of a trawl around taking us from Camberwell to Blackburn to Doncaster to Box Hill but we got what we wanted and also managed to find a Lonely Planet guide of Victoria for $3 and Bill Bryson’s “Notes from a small island” (which is all about England) for $2 which we thought would be a nice ‘flight read’ for Geoff when he jets off with Aunty Cathy. When we ... read more

Day 285 - Peterborough to Box Hill North Before the alarm clock fulfilled its alerting destiny we could hear Kalvin outside just after 5am, he’d obviously woken up early and was getting ready for the fishing trip. We cheekily lay there to get a couple more minutes but he must have known and banged on the door to get us moving! We’d done all the preparation last night so just needed to grab our bags and go. We headed out of Peterborough in the pitch black with nobody else on the roads, only mad fishermen and Englishmen get up this early we thought! Kalvin popped along the tight, twisting country roads until we finally got to Lake Bullen Merri which is a brackish crater lake near Camperdown. It’s thought that it was formed by two overlapping ... read more

Day 280 - Box Hill North Are we leaving today? Are we heck!! We thought about it, for all of about 5 minutes. We’re pretty sure that we’re not outstaying our welcome although it does seem odd that the caravan is halfway out of the gates now! Only joking! Anna has a work commitment this morning, I know - on a Sunday! The Reed Gift Fair is on at the convention centre in the city and as a sales agent she feels it beneficial to have a look around. I express some interest in going, I’m a little reluctant because ‘smart’ clothing is not part of my wardrobe this season but a quick rummage around comes up with a pair of half decent shoes, a pair of half decent shorts and a very lovely top that ... read more

Day 279 - Box Hill We wake up with the strangest feeling this morning, it’s a Saturday, we’re at the Box Hill Resort with the Adams and we have no hangover - this is unprecedented!! After a self-imposed ‘Friday Night Off’ we all managed a reasonably early night and therefore wake up with plenty of energy for the day ahead. Now all we need to figure out is what to do with it! We swing easily in to the breakfast routine and then start to gear up for Charlotte to go to a party at lunchtime until she realised that it’s actually tomorrow! Well that changes everything! We took the opportunity during the coolness in the morning to make the finishing touches to the 'Close to Home' Gumnut Babies geocache and then headed out with the ... read more

Day 278 - Box Hill North Having decided to stay just one more day (!) at the Box Hill Resort we are up and about early enough to get the girls breakfast for them plus for Darryl to do their sandwich boxes. While I whiz into the house to see who’s about he darts off to visit his new friend in the bread shop round the corner and get the paper for Grant. By the time he’s back the girls are generally either eating their breakfast or sneaking a quick go on the Wii! The girls are great entertainment and this morning they pose a question for Anna. “Which would you prefer to be - a peach, a carrot or a cucumber?”! Beautifully random!! Anna is off to the groomers this morning with little Daisy. She’s ... read more

Day 277 - Box Hill North We have a huge CONGRATULATIONS message to shout out this morning, to ourselves! It’s our 10th Wedding Anniversary today! We hadn't gone overboard on presents, but we had got a few items stored away on the assumption we would be tucked up in the bush. The intended use of a bottle of Moscato, some Maggie Beer pate, Maggie Beer Cabernet paste, tasty cheese and Margaret River chocolate are all on hold as we are still at the ‘Box Hill Resort’! Instead it looks like we’re going to be treated to more culinary delights from head chef Grant with willing assistant Mr Howells! We opened our cards to one another this morning, very lovely both of them and then we opened the card given to us by the Coulsells before we ... read more

Day 276 - Box Hill We wake up this morning feeling rough around the edges, for the first time in months we had a bit of a blue and didn’t resolve it before bedtime so we’ve both slept uneasily. It just goes to show that we’re tired and could probably do with a couple of days down time as once we bother to talk things through this morning we sort things out in no time at all. It’s enough to convince us that we might just hang around here for the rest of the day though and get back on the road tomorrow. Plus of course we love the extra time we’re managing to spend playing with the girls, they’re lots of fun to be around so as long as we can convince Grant & Anna ... read more

Day 275 - Rye to Box Hill A beautiful sound wakes us up this morning, children playing Rummikub! Charlotte, Amy, Georgia and Ethan are having a great time playing and then all of a sudden a familiar sound comes over the air waves ‘Errrrrrrrrrr’ which is the time’s up buzzer sound that we make when somebody is taking too long on their go!!! We’ve taught them well!! The morning after the night before is rarely a pretty one and now we can hear the clinking of bottles being cleared up. We shoot out of bed, trying not to wake sleeping beauty (Jordan) who must have snuck in during the early hours. We find Bill is already up and starting to wade through the empties strewn around the outside eating area. Crikey, we’d got through a few! ... read more
