Tuesday 17th March 2015 Today we stayed local; first up we visited the Channel Heritage Centre here in Margate. This centre was set up to promote and preserve the history and heritage of the local area. It sits on an old quarry site which is leased from the Council on a 99 year lease at a peppercorn rent. It was originally opened in 1979 in two rooms of a house and has grown over the years until it finally graduated to this purpose built building in it's more visible site on Channel Highway. We spent some time here reading displays which began with the history of the local indigenous people.
