As we departed Robe this morning we drove up to Beacon Hill Lookout. With the weather overcast this morning we regretted not having driven up to the lookout yesterday afternoon. C’est la vie! We snapped shots anyway over Lake Fellmongery towards Guichen Bay. In a similar vein to yesterday we decided to take the unsealed roads on the ocean side of Lake Eliza and call in at Nora Creina. We reached the end of the road somewhat before the end of the road because the settlement of Nora Creina is a gated community. We parked at the gate and took the walkway to the beach which was looking a bit grey and uninviting this morning. We were getting a bit sick of the dirt road driving so decided to head back out to the Southern Ports ... read more

We were on a mission this morning to arrive at Bleasdale Wines in Langhorne Creek at opening time so we could grab some half bottles of their sparkling Shiraz which is only available at the cellar door. We arrived just before 10am and the tasting room was already open so we walked in and purchased 18 half bottles (12 for me, 6 for Cathy) and then continued on our way. I think it was probably the wineries easiest sale of the day! From Langhorne Creek we headed back to Wellington and returned across the Murray on the ferry. We timed it to perfection as the ferry was just about to leave, but there was room for two more cars so the ferry operator lifted the boom gate and ushered us on. We turned south at the ... read more

Another day of travelling from Port Fairy to Robe. We stopped in a number of places to take in the scenery and crossed over from Victoria to South Australia which meant an increase in speed limit to 110km/hr and a turn back of the clocks by 30 minutes. Going to treat ourselves to a meal in a local hotel tonight, booked a table overlooking the sea, got to treat yourselves sometime when your on holiday. Tomorrow the Borrossa Valley.... read more

On a glorious autumn day and being afforded the luxury of not having to share the road with all the others escaping city life for the Adelaide Cup Holiday Long week end we hit the road early Friday morning. Expressway after expressway and with a coffee stop in Willunga we arrived in Normanville at midday. After setting up the caravan what better way to celebrate the start of our Limestone Coast break than with fish and chips and a beer. Isn’t this what you do at the beach? And we know … this is not the Limestone Coast but first we were to spend the weekend with our friends, Sheila and Brian in the Normanville Caravan Park. We were glad we got there early as by the end of the day the place was packed. With ... read more

Day 2, we travelled from Halls Gap via the Grampians to Hamilton where we had agreed to stop for Neil to have his coffee fix ! and as chance would have it, we ran into 'Twisty' (Peter) and Jenny Franklin. It was great to catch up with them and hear all their news. We then headed via Dartmoor to Beachport where we stayed the night. A once sleepy fishos' holiday spot which has seen alot of development (holiday homes) since we were last here a few years ago. Still a fishing spot as opposed to a beach resort though. We took Jackie for a walk along the beach and she attacked the waves with enthusiasm after being in the car travelling all day. We stop and have 'walkies' frequently but nothing beats the beach for her. ... read more

Jan 14-17 Adelaide, South Australia One thing I can say for sure about this country is that it has some very pretty cities, and Adelaide is another one. We are staying at the youth hostel here and as always, it is in a great location. We have spent a day and a half wandering around the city looking at old, stylish, sandstone buildings. There is also a walking mall through the main section of town where we spent quite a bit of time window shopping. While walking around town we also saw lots of cyclist who were training for a big professional race (the Down Under)which is scheduled to start on the day we leave. One of the cyclist is Lance Armstrong but if we saw him, we didn’t know it. Then on Sunday we hoped ... read more

Well, isn’t it strange - last night I was convinced that there would be very little happening in our day today, as we had a drive of around 300kms across land that looks like a cross between dried out salt flats and sand dunes. It was more a case of wondering how we could keep awake on the journey. I’m happy to report that we filled the day very well - so well that we didn’t quite get to our planned destination, but hey - you’d want to be where I am now - sitting next to a lighthouse with panoramic views of the coastline in both directions. John has gone down to the beach to take photos of a wreck. So ... the day started with me pulling our curtains to get a view of ... read more

A peaceful morning spent visiting Goolwa, the last paddle steamer stop on the Murray River (from which you can catch a steam train to Adelaide) - Goolwa is actually on the mouth of the Murray. We visited the visitors centre to find out why the Sunday Market wasn’t on ... and discovered this was because it was Saturday (which also explained the lack of Saturday markets yesterday!!) We were walking round an art gallery (and being very non-impressed) when we got chatting to the chap overseeing the exhibition - he recommended some places to go, which saw us driving out to the Coorong Barrage in the Coorong National Park looking for seals, which we never saw (should never have insulted the art!) - but we did see some wonderful birds and got chatting to a couple ... read more
