We arrived in Mission Beach at 2pm on Friday 22 June and checked into Mission Beach Shack. Our twin room had a TV and DVD player which was a blessing as there's nothing to do in Mission Beach and the weather was bad. We watched Snatch in the afternoon and then walked into town (literally just a few shops) for dinner. We returned to our room to watch Babel and then went to sleep at 11pm. On Saturday morning we walked up and down the beach for a couple of hours and then returned to the hostel for lunch. We then watched a documentary on Muhammad Ali followed by Cinderella Man. After walking into town for dinner, we watched Lucky Number Slevin before going to sleep. On Sunday morning, we walked along the beach for a ... read more

No, I'm not dead, don't worry. It's always a wierd sensation to arrive in a new place when you don't know anyone, especially at night. Since there is really nothing to do at these places, you usually end up just meeting a few people and having a drink or 7 or just going to bed. Arriving at Mission Beach, where there is seemingly nothing, felt like deja-vu from everyother place. I often get down on it when I arrive, but as always, after a few days of exploring, I'm never ready to leave. Thankfully, I've finally mastered the rollie and it's a great way to kill the boredome. Mission Beach is truly the tropics, with jungle growing right up to the beach. There was a fantastic rainforest walk to revive the spirit and make all ... read more

I got to Mission Beach on the 31st of May, just planning to stay a few days to do the white water rafting and a skydive but ended up staying nearly three weeks! I got offered a job in the local bar called Coconuts which was so much fun and where I met a great friend called Holly (see pic). Also worked for a bit at Scottys for free accomodation, the girls who worked there were really good to me and gave me silly little jobs around the hostel that didn't take two long and then they would write off another night so that was handy! There's not overly much to do in Mission so my highlight of the day was getting in the bus and picking up the new arrivals from the bus stop! I ... read more

Arrived into Mission Beach on Sunday with a raging Townsville hangover! Made especially worse when it decided to bucket down from the heavens upon our arrival. So now I was hung over and soaked to the skin! Not fun at all. Mission beach itself looked pretty nice from what I got to see of it onboard the bus but unfortunately as luck would have it tropical rain was predicted for the entire duration of our Mission experience, so no beach for us! We had booked into Mission beach shack which had a lovely lagoon out the back which again we never got to use. Trying to make the most of our stop in Mission, we thought "damn it, if we're gonna get soaked lets do it right!" so we wasted no time at all and booked ... read more

We bought ourselves a Greyhound pass that takes us from Cairns to Sydney as we start the East Coast Run back to Sydney for our flights to NZ. Our first stop was Mission Beach, partly because we thought I'd be a nice place to chill for a while, and partly because we'd rather avoid any long and uncomfortable bus journeys if there's chance. And so what to say about Mission Beach..... well not a lot. It definately a place to chill and spend some time not really doing anything. There's plenty of beach and not much else. It's a popular place to Skydive and although we thought about it, the weather kind of stopped any chance of that. Yes, you'll be glad to know that we didn't really see much sun, but had plenty of ... read more

So Mission Beach is famous for a few things.. we knew we had to do...Walk along the gorgeous beach, visit the tropical Dunk Island, Jump out of a plane at 14,000ft and White Water Raft on the Tully River. Soooo thats what we did!.. we didn't want to tell anyone at home until we had sent the pictures and DVDs home to give the parents a shock! lol. Even though the Hostel at Mission was basic it was good fun and we had a couple of visits to the bottle shop and some good nights on our balcony with the girls!...On our first day we got the Water Taxi to Dunk Island which was just how i expected paradise to look! palm trees hanging over the beach beautiful sunshine and lush beaches. I thought I'd add a seperate blog for Mission Beach as I'm hoping that when I find the right computer I can upload my dvd footage, so keep a look out on the next blogs as I'll keep you posted! Well from Townsville we went to Mission Beach, we did want to see it but our main reason for stopping was to do a skydive. This wasn't my idea, it was Luc's! I have to say that even the thought of doing it made my stomach churn and I wasn't overkeen on doing it but I knew that Luc would come down and I'd end up wanting to do it! On our first day we chilled out at our hostel the beach shack. This place was really cool, it was a big house next to ... read more

Dunk Island has a holiday resort on it, with loads of activities. We travelled across for a day trip to do some horse riding. Trav had never been on a horse before so was very excited. We were allocated our horses and Kathy was a bit concerned as her horse, Sunny, seemed half the size of everyone else's. It wasn't actually that much smaller, just standing downhill! We mounted up without any problems and set off in single file. The ride was initially on a woodland path, then on the beach (the horses weren't keen on this as there was nothing for them to graze on!) and then finally through a meadow, which the riding instructor called the "Lolly shop" (Australians call sweets lollys). Our horses continually wanted to eat, but we soon got used ... read more

Min instruktoer sagde ikke rigtig noget, og Neils, en russer ved navn Igor, sagde blot: "Do lika dis, and wuuush... out of plane."
