lonierangers

Been on the road since 10.11.2010. We still call Newcastle (NSW) home as that's where most of our family and friends are. In reality home is our Opalite caravan 24ft, and our Ford Ranger (hence the name Lonie Rangers). Our car is the Silver Bullet from the Lone Ranger, put this together with Dave's surname being Lonie, and there our title was created. I'd say we travel at a snails pace, there is no rush, we have the rest of our lives. However, going slow allows us to experience each place and move when we're ready for the next adventure. Right outside our window, 50 metres long. We've seen cattle, sheep and camels being transported.

Longreach: Stockman's Hall of Fame

The Australian's Stockman's Hall of Fame and Outback Heritage Centre is a must for anyone coming out this way. It takes you through Discovery of Australia, Pioneers, Outback Properties, Royal Flying Doctors, Stock Workers and an Art Gallery. It is very well done and I don't have a lot of patience in a museum.

They are from Victoria and travel as a family to do their show.

Longreach School of the Air

Teachers work in soundproof offices and the children have computers and phones. They stay at school accommodation for carnivals and special events. Very interesting for an old schoolie.

What do Folks Do?

Sheep for wool and meat. This breed has a special fat reservoir to help them survive the harsh conditions.

Macropod Harvesting

Roo shooting! It is controlled with regulations. When I walk and they bound away from me I say, "Run, run, I don't have a gun but someone will".

Dry and Harsh

You can see how hard it is for the property owners. Talking with the locals, they are not happy with 25c a kilo and often stations are going into farm stays to supplement their income.

With all the dry, dusty harsh conditions, you can always find some beauty and character out here.
