Longreach is where Qantas started. We went to the Qantas Founders Museum. They had little model airplanes going around the ceiling. One was the first plane that was used to start Qantas. It was an Avro. We did a tour around the museum and original Qantas hanger from 70 years ago. We also did a “Secrets of the Boeing 747” tour. The last service it operated was 9th November, 2002 from Perth to Sydney. This plane brought home the Bali Bombing survivors before being retired (decommissioned). It was delivered to Longreach on 17th November, 2002. I got to sit in first class, right near the front of the plane.
Qantas stands for Queensland And Northern Territory Aerial Services.
