Well would you believe it! We arrived at Carnarvon National Park today and decided to do several short walks before we undertake the 14km hike tomorrow. First short walk was to some aboriginal rock painting but was only prints of hands so not too impressive. Second one was very spectacular as the track was at the bottom of a very very narrow gorge which made the temperature lovely and cool, being constantly in the shade, considering in the sunshine it was extremely hot. The third one was the nature walk by the information office and crossed a small stream with the track meandering through bush. Our first encounter was with a HUGE kangaroo that did not seem to want to get off the track in front of us but thankfully decided to hop off eventually. A ... read more

18 Jan 2012 Our first day off we decided to take a drive to Chinchilla (58kls from Condamine). The road was quite rough even though it was bitumen but a nice little town (though a lot bigger than Miles or Condamine). Called into the Chinchilla Weir for morning tea - a beautiful and quiet place until a family turned up to do some water skiing - the Chinchilla Ski club uses the weir. There is a very nice free camping here with free power for 2 nights. Had lunch at the RSL club - the food was very average. 22 Jan 2012 Our next day off we headed into Miles to check out the great Museum which we had heard about - they have transported lots of old buildings or built replica buildings to make a ... read more

It was great to feed all the animals & see Maddy so happy with her new house she even has her own bathroom. We decided to take Maddy up to Chinchilla & we left on the 25-6-10 & Hayden was so pleased to see us . Talk about a shock he has grown so tall, he is a s tall as me & he has grown up so much, we are really proud of him. Maddy just loves him to death & would not leave him alone. But we had a nice few days at Chinchilla catching up with all the Goss. The kids had a great time & we went out for tea, caught Yabby’s in the Dam, although Maddy was not sure about holding them. After a few days there we all headed off ... read more

Yes ladies & gentlemen, it's back and better than ever! Ok, let's not get our hopes up, but at least I will be providing you with something to do to pass the time in your daily life. Believe it or not, not much has changed in Chinchilla since the last update. That is likely no surprise to anyone but just wanted to clarify. Daily life here consists of getting up in the morning, going to work for 10-11 hours per day and then going home! I have been trying to go to the gym to get in shape to fit in with all the Aussies - I've been going a few times a week but in all honesty, I've spent more time lounging around in the pool. Oh well; all good intentions... There appears to be ... read more

Another summer, another continent. What would a summer be without me leaving the country in search of a little adventure!? I have decided to revive the long-lost "travel blog" in hopes of documenting my first and possibly final four months in clinical veterinary practice. For those of you who haven't heard, I have taken a locum position (short-term) in Australia - and not just anywhere, but Chinchilla, Queensland, Australia at the Chinchilla Veterinary Services. If you take a look on a map, just go about 500km west of Brisbane in to the abyss of the outback. If you mosey on over to googlemaps.com and look up Chinchilla, you'll probably have to (i) zoom in to appreciate any relevance to this town and (ii) splash yourself with water to wake-up from the feeling of boredom that you ... read more
