We had been told some bad things about Brissy, that it was boring and had nothing to do. As soon as I stepped out the bus i thought i liked it already. We had only scheduled to stay there for 2 days so wasnt a long stop off. Our hostel was meh okay quite a big dorm where people didnt really want to interact with each other so we headed out straight away to explore. We walked all over Brisbane CBD and strolled through the botanical gardens which were beautiful with lovely purple flowers blooming over the trelis for about 2 miles! Then we came across the city lagoon which was a lovely big pool over looking the city we saved that for the next day. Headed back to the hostel as we were getting a ... read more

What a start !!!!!!! Emily knows now not to wait for the mail before leaving - a letter for jury service half an hour before we left Bundaberg. There were some rushed phone calls John left his coat in the backseat of the car so Adam had to do two dropoffs at the International Airport. Adam , you are looking after my car, aren't you !!! Lesley's passport ended up in an airport rubbish bin. Say no more !!! Geoff had a comfortable sleep on John's pillow - no he did not put his pillow in the overhead lockers ? ! ? ! So we Singapore Slinged it to Changi Airport - complementary Sinapore Sling cocktails and Tiger beer. Long distance flights are wonderful !!!!!... read more

After arriving in Brisbane and having a few days to clean up, Sheena and I started to plan some short day-trips to the many sights around Brisbane to ensure we took advantage of our wheels while we still had them. First stop - Surfer’s Paradise. Gold Coast / Surfer’s Paradise With the sun beating and temperatures high we set out for Sufer's Paradise. Stef & Jakub lived in Surfer's during Jakub's time at Uni and so we were really excited to see what all the hype was about. Driving into Surfer’s was like driving into Miami - neon signs, lots of clubs & hotels, and lots of activity. Definitely a long way from the deserted beaches of Western Australia! With a quick walk around the strip and a bite to eat, Sheena and I finally settled ... read more

It is a pleasure to be wearing shorts again now that we are in Australia. We met up with Adrienne and Tim (and two of Adrienne's friends) in Brisbane, then went to visit a longtime friend of mine for three days while Adrienne sat her final exams. My friend lives in Yamba beside the wide Clarence River, about three hours drive south of Brisbane, in sugar cane country. We spent an enjoyable three days pottering around museums, beaches and nearby towns. We saw wallabys, kangaroos, hundreds of fruit bats hanging from the branches of a stand of trees, dolphins in the bay, and a Kookaburra. I also enjoyed watching small parrots and other assorted birds feeding on numerous unusual (to me anyway) trees in my friend's garden. Now back in Brisbane, we began our day with ... read more

I suppose that there are 2 ways to look at it: 1. We really dodged a bullet because if the Bangkok protest had happened after we arrived in the country then we would have been stuck in that airport with no water for the next month, and now we are going to Cancun (Mexico) instead 2. I don't get to go to thailand and ride a push bike around (the part that I was by far the most excited about)! However it has worked out ok. Went to the travel agent this morning, sat there for half an hour and was ignored by the staff who were "working", then Lauren tried to cut in front of the guy who was waiting before us... lol. Anyway finally got to change our flight and are now flying direct ... read more

We spent last night and most of today at the Tangalooma Wild Dophin Resort on Morton Island. To get there we took a 60 minute boat ride. It turned out to be a delightful resort with many, many activities. The Wild Dophin feeding occurs each evening at 7:00pm and was a unique experience. We will have to show you the pictures in person - all pictures were taken by a resort photographer because they have to be taken behind the dolphins. Apparently the flash will injure their eyes and effect there ability to see in the water. Because they are wild we were not allowed to touch them - just hold the little fish under the water and the dolphin itakes it out of your hand. They are really cute! So isn't it crazy ive already been gone for 1 month. Time flys when your having fun thats for sure. well I made my way down to Brisbane and stayed at Jason Whitings place. Right now there is 6 Canadians living there, so its quite fun thats for sure. I also found a job in Brisbane working for Beach House Fitness Center as a Membership Consultant. So basically I try to get people to become members then I give them tours around the gym and whatnot. It should be ok, I will probably only do it for a couple of months maybe, just enough to make some money, not that I need it but it always helps. The weather has been really good as of late, its fall time here but still really warm and the ... read more

Today was the final day of my landscape job at the Brisbane Boys College. I took the train which I finally go instead of taxi, saving tonnes of money. I started at 6:30 and finished at 4:30, basically just doing touch up and doing small gardens which we had to wait to do because of other work in area. After that I took the train back to the hostel. The rest of the night was just general stuff we do every night...food, tv, internet and then sleep.... read more

Today I work up at 5:20 and was to work at the same landscape company Naturelink at the Brisbane Boys College. The plan was to catch a bus at 6:14 which would get my to the school for 6:21. I went on the website the night before of the local public transit and found the best route. The computers here do not allow the maps to be shown however so I had to guess where the station was. I left at 6:00 so I would have enough to find it. I headed out toward the street that I was dropped off by the bus the day before. I never did find the bus. I ended up going back to the hostel and spending 12 bucks on a taxi. I was still ontime though. I worked from ... read more
