15/11/08 = Picked up Chubby Up, showered, fed, packed and off early to pick up van. Got free lift into city again, then train to Bowen Hills. Did 10minute walk with bags (forgot how awful they were to carry) and then arived at shop. Different guy today, but really nice. Went through all important stuff with us (which we both nodded to and said yes lots) then paid money. Had to leave a $2000 bond on credit card for insurance incase any accidents (please no accidents) and then pay balance of van too. Poor cards didn't know what hit them! Had a nosey around van then. Is called a 'chubby van' - hence nickname. Big picture of Rabbit punch on side. Small kitchen (ha!) at back = basically a sink. No fridge, but what they call ... read more

13th November 2008 - ARRIVAL DAY!! The flight was amazing and Quantas are my new favourite airline!!! As we boarded we chose to walk through 1st class again even though this time we didn't need to. The air stewardess asked 'where do you think you're off to?' and we felt like naughty children as we turned around and walked back past everyone to where the 'normal' people sit!! All we saw at first was a blanket and for a long flight I was a little gutted.....but they then brought around the package of socks, eye mask, headphones, tootbush & toothpaste and a pillow all in a handy little bag!!! So excited and a world apart from the overnight trains and buses we had become used to!!! I managed to fall asleep before take off and slept ... read more

13/11/08 = Welcome to Australia Arrived in Brisbane on time but had to wait 2 hrs for hostel to pick us up - not too bad though because airport nice. Staying in Moreton Bay = right on water. Not really swimming water though (not that I'd swim in it anyway), more watersports water. Unpacked bags a bit then went into common room to chat to some people about area and things to do. Not v.nice though and felt quite uncomfortable. Other girls had stayed and worked in area a long time and were quite territorial - felt like we had crossed over some kind of invisible boundary. Then a poor girl came in who had red lumps all over her arms and face. There were so many lumps that some of them had merged together and ... read more

G'day folks! Here's what we've been up to recently. We finally got round to visiting Australia Zoo, the one owned by the Irwin family. We've been to loads of zoos and wildlife parks since we've been here, so a lot of things we'd seen before obviously, but one good thing about this place is that the animals all have really nice surroundings and loads of space. I finally hugged a koala and got my photo taken with it! He was a cute little fella, but you can tell in my face that I was very worried he was going to wee on me!! But luckily he didn't! Another 'first' we experienced at the zoo was seeing a wombat being walked on a leash, like a dog (see pic)!! So bizarre. We went up to the zoo-keepers ... read more

Finally have some internet connection, so doing another blog already!! We have been back to Brisbane, and it’s strange to think that we were here 5 weeks ago (we have been away for 6wks now!) It also felt that it was the first bit of 'real' life in 5 weeks. Everywhere else we have been has been so small, and usually only made bigger due to the tourism. But the towns have always felt a step away from reality? Maybe it’s just the campsite life, which is 95% blue rinses! Anyway, after a bit of shopping we met up with Jenni and Steve for another catch up. We had a lovely night and a bottle or two of wine! They have a lovely apartment in a great location and it’s easy to see why they love ... read more

Tonight we bid farewell to Australia and the end of our down under adventures. What an incredible time we've had. We wanted to share with you a few of our last pictures. Some from the Australian Zoo - wonderful! Enjoyed it a lot! 21 days, 16 airplanes, 1 helicopter, 9 hotels, 1 rental car, 3 hair-raising rides with grandmajan, one group of thieves, 1 police station, 700+ photos (we may require that you look at each one!, 5 hrs 47 mins of video (sit back relax...), at least 15 tours, and too many buses and transfers to count! The good news is that we enjoyed almost all of it!!! Our last night in Australia is in Brisbane and we finally tonight were able to "walkabout". Our hotel is in the southbank area (think artisy - kinda) ... read more

Hey guys!!! This past week has been quite eventful~ I gave my presentation and turned in my paper for my developmental disabilities class, so I am basically done with that class. Friday was my birthday and we made plans to go to Currumbin, a wildlife sanctuary. It was a pretty big park; we saw this huge croc that weighed 1 ton! There was also this area to pet, feed, and take pictures with kangaroos. They were so tame, you could just lie there on the ground with them. We also saw a bird show, emus, pelicans, and other things. After that, we walked into the small little town on the oceanfront. We ate at the surf club that had a restaurant right on the water- my favorite. The beach was so pretty and we would ... read more

Hi All, It looks like we are back up and running with the Travelblog... for some reason it crashed or something... who knows. Australia filing deadlines are coming up soon. We've been working long busy-season hours. Last weekend we went to Moreton Island. Andrew, an Australian BrisVegas baby & coworker, took us on his parent's barge and we explored Moreton Island with him. Attached are the pitcures from the Moreton Island weekend. We have 4 weeks left in Brisbane. Love & Hugs, Hank & Christine... read more

On The Oodnadatta Track- March 2007 Day One Maree to William Creek - 199kms The official Oodnadatta Track started from a dusty, deserted looking town of Maree save for a handsome pub, with many warning signs re road conditions, safety guidelines etc but we had done our homework so it was time to hit the dirt all the way. The track pretty much follows the Old Ghan Railway Track of the 1900’s that connected Port Augusta with Oodnadatta, once a thriving town and hub of the outback. With the help of a great little pamphlet cum mudmap acquired at the Adelaide Camping Show, we had lots of information about various landmarks and ruins. “The Pink Roadhouse” from Oodnadatta had developed this entertaining brochure to provide detailed information on what to see and expect as well ... read more
